Hot August Night III (Live At The Greek Theatre, Los Angeles / 2012)

Neil Diamond

Genre: Concert Films

Price: $ 19.99

Release Date: August 17, 2018

Hot August Night III commemorates one of the modern rock era’s most electrifying live performers, Neil Diamond. Hot August Night III, is a live concert performance that features the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer’s triumphant return to the legendary Greek Theatre in Los Angeles in August 2012. This magical performance also served as Diamond’s 40th anniversary celebration of the original multiplatinum-selling Hot August Night collection that was recorded at the very same venue on August 24, 1972. Diamond’s concert performance and onstage prowess is in full evidence on Hot August Night III, which features 33 songs including 31 of the Songwriters Hall of Famer’s greatest hits. Clocking in at over 2 hours and 20 minutes in length, his video contains rare behind-the-scenes footage with both the band and the crew, showcasing the undeniably palpable energy surrounding Diamond’s return to this most historic venue. Every album from Diamond and every concert is a chance to renew that commitment he made to his fans so long ago—to give them everything he possibly can. With many more years to go, the mission remains the same now as it was at the start: “I'd like just to continue to write songs that express my own life and feelings,” Diamond told Variety. “Writing songs and performing for an audience is such a satisfying creative outlet that I can't think of anything else I could do to top it.” In his lifetime, we have come to expect nothing less. From the fine acoustic twang of “Forever in Blue Jeans” to the pure Americana swing of “Kentucky Woman” to the eternal singalong sunshine of “Sweet Caroline” to the raw emotionality of “I Am I Said” to the welcoming arms of “America,” Hot August Night III cements Diamond’s mastery of the live stage and his unique connection with audiences the world over. Released in December 1972, the original Hot August Night — the title of which was culled from the opening line to one of Diamond’s most celebrated tracks, 1969’s “Brother Love’s Traveling Salvation Show” — captures the artist at the height of his live powers on the evening of one of his ten sold-out shows at the Greek that August. Of these nights, Robert Hilburn of The Los Angeles Times declared, “His 1972 Hot August Night stand at the Greek remains among the most celebrated series of shows by a mainstream pop-rock performer ever in Los Angeles.” Hot August Night II followed 15 years later in 1987, chronicling Diamond’s command of the Greek stage in August 1986. Subsequent set additions such as the pleading “September Morn,” the chart-topping ballad “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers,” and the intimate glow of “Heartlight” all continued to illustrate the ongoing evolution of Diamond’s deepening audience connection. In 2009, Hot August Night/NYC was released on CD and DVD featuring songs from recorded from Diamond's four shows at Madison Square Garden during his 2008 tour. An hour-long special featuring songs edited from the DVD was shown on CBS on the night of the disc's release which was watched by 13 million viewers. And now, with the endless dynamic enthusiasm that’s apparent all throughout Hot August Night III, Neil Diamond once again sweetly proves that good times never seemed so good.

On October 16, 1992, New York City's hottest concert ticket was the live gathering of musical giants, legend and archetypes who'd come to Madison Square Garden to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Bob Dylan's first Columbia Records album and play a selection of Dylan songs—from culturally iconic (John Mellencamp's no-nonsense "Like A Rolling Stone") to bootleg obscure (Lou Reed's acerbic take on "Foot of Pride")—that had moved and inspired them over the decades. The four hour show, performed for a sold-out audience of more than 18,000 fans and live-cast around the world, brought together an unprecedented roster of artists and icons including Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash, Lou Reed, The Clancy Brothers, Ritchie Havens, Johnny Winter, Roger McGuinn, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Stevie Wonder, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Neil Young, Eric Clapton, Ron Wood, Chrissie Hynde, The O'Jays, Eddie Vedder, Sinéad O'Connor, Tracy Chapman, George Harrison (then making his first US concert appearance in 18 years) and more. Providing musical backing throughout the show was an ensemble dream team featuring three members of Booker T. & The M.G.'s, G.E. Smith on guitar with Jim Keltner and Anton Fig on drums. Dubbed "Bobfest" on stage by a jubilant Neil Young, the 30th Anniversary Concert Celebration reached a transcendent crescendo with an unforgettable performance and all-star jam featuring the evening's honoree. Viewed anew from a 20-year perspective, Bob Dylan – The 30th Anniversary Concert Celebration – Deluxe Edition is a remarkable testament to the enduring legacy and ongoing musical influence of Bob Dylan. That valedictory gathering from more than 20 years ago proved to be a mid-career retrospective of a recording artist and performer who continues to inform and transform the cultural landscape.

But the Asperger’s syndrome that helped forge Numan’s tunnel-like ambition, informing his music and image, also brought problems. Then Numan fell in love with his biggest fan, Gemma, who helped him rediscover his passion for music.

Now, the Godfather of electronic pop music has embarked on a one-way trip to California, in search of a new life in the sun and new challenges in Hollywood.

These two concerts from Montreux in 1991 and 1992 catch Tori Amos right at the start of her solo career. The first, from July 1991, was filmed a few months before the release of her "Little Earthquakes" album and the second from July 1992 followed a few months after. There is a fascinating progression from one year to the next as she grows in confidence and skill as a live performer, buoyed by the critical and commercial success of the album. Naturally most of the songs are taken from "Little Earthquakes" but there are also rare songs from her various EPs released across the two years which didn't make it onto the album including her distinctive takes on Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love" and "Thank You" and Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit".

'TIME MACHINE 2011: Live In Cleveland' is an evening with Rush performing their classic hits and features the legendary 'Moving Pictures' album, performed live in its entirety. Released in 1981, 'Moving Pictures' is their most successful album, certified 4x Platinum, and features some of the band's most well known songs and perennial radio favorites, including “Tom Sawyer,” “Limelight” and the Grammy®-nominated instrumental “YYZ.” Captured in April, 2011 in Cleveland during the renowned trio’s extensive world tour, 'TIME MACHINE 2011: Live In Cleveland' marks the band’s first live concert filmed in the United States. The choice to record in Cleveland was a deliberate nod of gratitude to the first city to support Rush on its airwaves, as former WMMS DJ Donna Halper is widely credited for helping break the band in 1974 by spinning “Working Man.” The reinterpreted live version of “Working Man” was the encore closer on the Time Machine tour and is included on this release. In addition to the 26-song concert set, Rush’s notorious concept tour videos are included: The first short film, entitled “The ‘Real’ History of Rush Episode No. 2 ‘Don’t Be Rash,’” and the opening second set video, "The ‘Real’ History of Rush Episode No. 17 ‘…and Rock and Roll is My Name.'"

In 1999, Slipknot arose from the American midwest on the strengths of an uncompromising debut album and visceral, intense live performances. The band galvanized a counterculture in the States before swiftly becoming a global sensation. Wherever the band played, their reputation preceded them, growing even more rapidly in their wake as word of the live shows spread. In the years since, the band has continued to thrive, touring the world countless times. With the success of their number one album, .5: The Gray Chapter, Slipknot chose to create their own festival, Knotfest, playing one of the biggest markets in the world – with the most passionate fans of rock and metal – Mexico City. From the moment the band touched down, the maggots (the band's own term for their fans, and happily adopted by the fans as a point of pride) were out in force. "Day Of The Gusano" documents not only a historic performance from one of the most exciting live bands on the planet, but delves deeply into the lives of the band's fans as well. This highly anticipated show gives a window into the chaos, excitement and community Slipknot has cultivated over the past 20+ years.

Stole The Show drops us into the heart of the music streaming revolution. Our story follows the rise of Kygo, the first star born in this new streaming age. His success across streaming platforms, driven by his invention of the “tropical house” genre, changed the fundamental rules of how an artist succeeds. Stole The Show centers around Kygo's first arena show at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, using it as a lens to examine not only Kygo's journey from his bedroom studio in Bergen, Norway, but also the revolutionary rise of streaming. Before Barclays, Kygo was in an oddly indefinable position. His success felt major, becoming the fastest artist in history to reach one billion streams. However, no one had been in this position before, so there were no common benchmarks to go by. He needed a test to gauge his standing outside of the digital world. Barclays Center was that test, and the sold-out results reflected a resounding success. Stole The Show, featuring Bono, Steve Aoki, Martin Garrix, and Shaggy, examines Kygo's ascent within this brave new world of streaming, following his career from before it could be called a career through the moment he officially broke through the ceiling in Brooklyn, and beyond.

Price: $ 19.99

Rental Price: $ 2.99

Release Date: January 1, 2016

All roads have led to this. Forty-one years in the making, the R40 Live tour took a very real journey back through time. Beginning with the grand design: a state-of-the-art stage set that pivots, rolls and dives, and brings Clockwork Angels in to bombastic, colorful life before marching stridently back in time (through theatre stages, a panoply of band and fan shots, the accrued memories of a life spent playing live) to a mocked-up school gym and the band playing there; a solitary bass amp set on the chair behind Geddy Lee, a mirror ball spiraling crazily above, casting thin rods of light like a light rain across the crowd, "Working Man" coming to a shuddering halt as the band's beginning becomes their end. Rush recorded and filmed R40 Live over two sold-out shows in the band's hometown of Toronto at the Air Canada Centre on June 17 & 19, 2015 in the middle of their R40 Live 35-date North American tour. R40 Live had the trio of Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart, performing a career-spanning live retrospective, celebrating their 40+ years together. The epic live shows by the Rock Hall of Famers were captured with 14 cameras to present the band feature-film style. The center-point of this tour was the remarkable setlist, coupled with their idea of a "de-evolution" set design. When the band opened the show with cuts "Headlong Flight" and "The Anarchist" from their most recent studio recording, 2012's Clockwork Angels, they did so with all the bells and whistles from that extensive tour. They worked backwards through their catalogue as the show progressed, the innovative set design making for constant visual eye-candy, as stagehands exchanged the gear and props on stage to resemble the era-correct tour staging in accordance with the songs being played. The first set featured the infamous dryers on stage while they played "Roll The Bones," "Subdivisions," and for the first time ever live, "Losing It" featuring violinist Ben Mink, who appeared on the original studio recording from 1982's Signals. The second set opened with classics "Tom Sawyer," followed by crowd favorite, "The Spirit of Radio," but also included "Jacob's Ladder," which hasn't been performed live since 1980 on their Permanent Waves tour. The last few songs of the R40 were set against the persimmon curtained theatre-looking stage, with the crowd raising their lighters and camera phones to "Closer to the Heart," and then Alex and Geddy appeared with their signature doubleneck guitars as they played Xanadu, into the epic "2112" and encored with "Lakeside Park/Anthem" and "What You're Doing/Working Man." The concert film also includes the the band's renowned tour videos, highlighted by "Roll The Bones (R40 Live)," that features an array of special guests in the rap part of the song: Jay Baruchel (She's Out Of My League), Les Claypool (Primus), Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones), Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave), Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), The Trailer Park Boys, and Jason Segel & Paul Rudd (I Love You, Man). It is the first time the band put the song back in the setlist since the R30 tour, a full decade ago. During the R40 Live tour, "Roll The Bones" gained new life and became a fan-favorite with an arena sing-along to the chorus "Why are we here? Because we're here – Roll The Bones." R40 Live audio was produced by Rush & David Botrill, and mixed by David Botrill (Tool, Muse); the film was directed by Dale Heslip, and produced by Allan Weinrib. The live photograph on the cover of R40 was shot by baseball Hall of Famer Randy Johnson, who captured the band in a rare moment when both Geddy Lee and Alex LIfeson were on Neil Peart's drum kit riser.

During the band's phenomenal rise and its dissolution at the height of their popularity in the early 80s, Summers captured history with his candid photographs. Utilizing rare archival footage and insights from the guitarist's side of the stage, CAN'T STAND LOSING YOU is "a unique exploration of the trio's history" (National Post) that brings together past and present as the band members reunite, thirty years later, for a massive world tour.

On July 27, 1986, Queen performed the largest-ever stadium concert at the Nepstadion in Budapest in front of 80,000 ecstatic fans. The concert was part of the famed Magic Tour, which was the last time the band toured with lead singer Freddie Mercury. Now, this original concert film has been remastered in high definition and features many of Queen's favorite tracks-"Bohemian Rhapsody," "Crazy Little Thing Called Love," "I Want To Break Free" and "We Are The Champions." With three years to go before the fall of the Berlin Wall, this was the first Western rock concert performed in a stadium behind the then Iron Curtain. It was of such significance to the Hungarian authorities and film industry that a group of the country's top film cameramen and technicians were brought together to film it for posterity.

Shot on February 21 and 22 of 2011 in her hometown of New York City, Five-time Grammy winner Lady Gaga's first concert film, "Lady Gaga Presents The Monster Ball Tour at Madison Square Garden," spotlights the pop sensation on her sold-out world tour. The concert event features "Born This Way", "You and I", "Bad Romance", "Just Dance", "Poker Face" and more, as well as pre-concert and backstage footage. As first seen on HBOR, the special was nominated for four Emmy Awards. Lady Gaga came to prominence following the release of her debut studio album The Fame (2008), which included the hits "Just Dance," "Poker Face," and "Bad Romance" and sold over 16 million copies worldwide. The album earned her six Grammy nominations and two wins as well as a slew of other awards recognition, including a record setting thirteen MTV Video Music Award nominations. Gaga is the first artist in history to claim four #1 hits from a debut album ("Just Dance," "Poker Face," "LoveGame" and "Paparazzi"). She is also the only artist in the digital era to top the 5 million sales mark with her first two hits. Gaga broke the record when her single "Poker Face" reached 5 million in sales after her debut single "Just Dance" accomplished the same feat the year before. Her third studio album, Born This Way, was released on May 23, 2011. The first single from the album, title track "Born This Way", set a music industry record by becoming the fastest single in history to reach sales of 1,000,000 copies (five days after its February 11th release). Only the 19th single to ever debut at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 (issue date February 26,2011), the recording was Lady Gaga's third #1 on the chart. On iTunes, the song debuted at the top spot in 14 countries, including the U.S., and hit #1 in all 23 iTunes stores worldwide its first week out. "Born This Way" was Gaga's 7th single to hit #1 at Top 40. The singles from the album, including "Born This Way," "Judas," "The Edge of Glory" and "You and I" have sold a combined total of more than 8 million copies in the US alone. Gaga is well-recognized for her outre sense of style as a recording artist, in fashion, in performance and in her music videos. Her contributions to the music industry have garnered her numerous achievements including five Grammy Awards amongst twelve nominations, two Guinness World Records and the estimated sale of 23 million albums and 60 million singles worldwide. Billboard named her both the "2010 Artist of the Year" and the top selling artist of 2010 ranking her as the 73rd Artist of the 2000s decade. Gaga has been included in Time's annual "The 2010 Time 100" list of the most influential people in the world as well as Forbes' list of the "The World's Most Powerful Celebrities" in the world. Forbes also placed her at number seven on their annual list of the world's "100 Most Powerful Women."

Bob Dylan is captured on-screen as he never would be again in this groundbreaking film from D. A. Pennebaker. The legendary documentarian finds Dylan in England during his 1965 tour, which would be his last as an acoustic artist. In this wildly entertaining vision of one of the twentieth century’s greatest artists, Dylan is surrounded by teen fans, gets into heated philosophical jousts with journalists, and kicks back with fellow musicians Joan Baez, Donovan, and Alan Price. Featuring some of Dylan’s most famous songs, including “Subterranean Homesick Blues,” “The Times They Are A-Changin’,” and “It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue,” Dont Look Back is a radically conceived portrait of an American icon that has influenced decades of vérité behind-the-scenes documentaries.

Queen

Genre: Concert Films

Price: $ 12.99

Release Date: October 29, 2007

Following their record-breaking South American tour, the Montreal shows on November 24 and 25, 1981 were to be the only concerts by Queen ever shot on film – indeed they were the first group to shoot an entire show in full cinema format 35mm. These releases offer the best ever sound and picture quality on a Queen concert release. Always a great live band, with two years non-stop touring behind them and Freddie Mercury in front of them, Queen excelled themselves with the cameras rolling. The footage has been digitally restored from the original film and the sound has been newly mixed and mastered for DTS Surround Sound and PCM Stereo from the original multi-track tapes. “Hello Montreal…long time no see. You wanna get crazy?” asks Freddie as the band tear into their alternative ‘fast’ version of We Will Rock You, and from there on Queen show their hard rock roots, slowing down only for Love of My Life and the more mid-tempo Under Pressure, notably being performed live for the first time in this concert. The real joy to be had in watching Freddie, Brian, Roger and John performing here is that, unlike any other Queen concert film available, this delivers raw Queen. This is before the Hot Space album, before keyboards would find a place in the band’s touring line up; this is simply four musicians in total cohesion. Originally titled, “We Will Rock You”, this film was first launched at the Cannes Film Festival in May 1983 – as only Queen could. It was then released in North America (September 1984), becoming the first commercially available film of Queen in concert. For this special edition, the picture has been digitally restored from the original 35mm negative.

The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus was filmed before a live audience at a North London TV studio in 1968, Rock and Roll Circus was originally conceived as a BBC TV special but it never aired. It was directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg and centers on the original line up of the Rolling Stones – Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Brian Jones, Bill Wyman and Charlie Watts (with Nicky Hopkins and Rocky Dijon) who serve as both the show’s hosts and featured attraction. The “World’s Greatest Rock and Roll Band” is seen and heard performing six Stones classics-to-be: “Jumping Jack Flash,” “Parachute Woman,” “No Expectations,” “You Can’t Always Get What You Want,” “Sympathy For The Devil” and “Salt of The Earth.” The program also includes full length musical performances by The Who, Jethro Tull, Taj Mahal, Marianne Faithful, Yoko Ono as well as The Dirty Mac, a group that was the first musical context in which John Lennon performed before an audience outside The Beatles. The Dirty Mac was Eric Clapton (lead guitar), The Rolling Stones’ own Keith Richards (bass) and Mitch Mitchell of the Jimi Hendrix Experience (drums) with Lennon on guitar and vocals. A mirthful conversation between Jagger and Lennon to introduce The Dirty Mac finds them referring to each other as “Winston” and “Michael” with Jagger affecting a convincingly flat American accent and Lennon referring to himself as “Winston Leg-Thigh.”

RAMMSTEIN: PARIS

Rammstein

Genre: Concert Films

Price: $ 12.99

Release Date: January 1, 2017

Catching the excitement of a spectacular concert on film is an almost impossible task. All the senses are stimulated at live events in a way that can't be replicated onscreen. Director Jonas Akerlund's extraordinary film RAMMSTEIN: PARIS is the closest anyone has ever come to cracking this dilemma. His creative rendition of the all-new stage production they delivered at Paris Bercy in March 2012 takes the art form to a whole new level, capturing the rush and grandeur of Rammstein live the way the band has always deserved. The look this time is sweaty, grimy gothic veering off into Grand Guignol, a technical tour de force that captivates you even before the music has started, as the titles flicker by like an electronic malfunction to the sinister hisses and sighs of the industrial stage set. Steam and light pulsate to a dystopian beat, a flaming torch parts the crowd, and the hooded band march ritualistically through the audience to the stage via an elevated gantry, ratcheting-up the tension. Anyone who can tease the crowd for this long is confident of delivering, and Rammstein do so in spades. As the grinding lurch of Sonne mutates into Wollt Ihr Das Bett In Flammen Sehen, fireballs shoot skywards from the guitarists' lapels, and soon Till's flaming hands are windmilling, smoke seeping from his nose and mouth as he sings. In Feuer Frei! three of the musicians have fire shooting out of their faces, the guitars burst into flames at the end of Du Riechst So Gut, and the boomeranging fireworks Till shoots over the crowd during Du Hast have to be seen to be believed. We've all seen concert films edited so headache-inducingly fast that you can't see anything properly. Akerlund's genius here is his ability to cut the action at a breathless pace which leaves you feeling exhilarated not disorientated. Like the car crash sequences in The Bourne Ultimatum, the variety of camera angles and frenetic speed with which they assault you leaves you feeling not so much dazed as, well – like you are really there. As they thrash though Asche Zu Asche, you realize that the lens through which we're seeing Rammstein has become a seventh band member. There are strange colors, textures, kaleidoscopic visual effects, distressed overhead crowd shots that look like insects, hallucinatory dissolves of flailing band members and unsettling flash frames like Till's intermittently satanic black eyes and forked tongue, fanged creatures cavorting in the crowd and electric lightning striking Flake's keyboards like a scene from Frankenstein's laboratory. This is a new kind of concert film, the live experience enhanced – as no one in the hall would have seen it. Most bands use the B stage at the other end of the hall for an acoustic interlude. Not Rammstein. As Richard Kruspe unleashes ominous electro beats from a keyboard, the rest of the band are whipped to the podium on their knees like groveling submissives by dressed-in-drag drummer Christoph Schneider for a version of Buck Dich that raises the tempo to fire alarm levels, its explosive conclusion echoing the version that got them arrested in America. But there is tenderness too, even a moment when the band stands in silence on the B stage smiling at the audience surrounding them, soaking up the love. A concert film is never the same as being at a concert, but RAMMSTEIN: PARIS is the perfect fusion of the band's extraordinary stage show with the film editor's craft. It is a visual feast, a celebration of Rammstein live that is both different to and in some ways better than being there – and a definite contender for the best concert film of all time.

In 1962 four young men – John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr – came together to form the 20th century musical phenomenon known as 'The Beatles'. The band stormed Europe in 1963 and, in 1964, they conquered America. Their groundbreaking world tours changed global youth culture forever and, arguably, invented mass entertainment as we know it today. All the while, the group were composing and recording a series of extraordinarily successful singles and albums. However, the relentless pressure of such unprecedented fame (which in 1966 became uncontrollable turmoil) led to the decision to stop touring. In the ensuing years The Beatles were then free to focus on a series of albums that changed the face of recorded music. Master storyteller and Oscar winner, Ron Howard, explores this incredible journey in his own unique way: How did The Beatles do this? How did they cope with all the fame and pressure? How did they not only survive, but go on to revolutionise popular music? With original interviews, footage, staggering live performances, and the intimate study of character that Ron Howard is known for, he puts us right inside this extraordinary adventure, answering the question everyone always wants to know: What was it like to be there?
