EXCLUSIVE: Atlanta de Cadenet Taylor and Morgan Lane Debut New Collection

Morgan Curtis and Atlanta de Cadenet Taylor were set up at New York’s Cafe Cluny.
The pair, fixtures in the fashion and music social scene — Curtis, the daughter of Jill Stuart and a designer in her own right, and de Cadenet Taylor, the daughter of Duran Duran bassist John Taylor, as well as a model, DJ and mental health advocate — had met before, but only in passing. They also had a handful of mutual friends between New York and Los Angeles. It wasn’t until the West Village encounter, however, that the two women really got to know one another.
“When we were introduced, we just instantly fell in love with each other,” Curtis, founder and designer of luxury intimates brand Morgan Lane, told WWD. “That got me really excited to do a collab. She’s a really good muse for the brand. And I love her body and I love how excited she gets about lingerie. She was just so passionate about it.”

EXCLUSIVE: J.Lo Stars in Versace Spring Campaign

MILAN — After closing the Versace spring 2020 runway show in a reimagined version of the iconic plunging jungle print dress she wore to the Grammy Awards in 2000, it’s no surprise that Jennifer Lopez posed for the brand’s new advertising campaign, which will be globally unveiled today.
J.Lo is the protagonist, along with Kendall Jenner, of a series of images shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.
Immersed in a tech-driven environment, they were captured typing their names into the search bar as a metaphor of today’s concept of self-identity, which through the use of social media can be carved by choosing what to share with followers. In the pictures, both Lopez and Jenner don sculpted evening dresses, as well as jungle-printed separates.
“In terms of my career, the Jungle dress really marked a moment in time. To me, Versace represents empowerment and putting something beautiful out into the world,” Lopez said. “It’s a dream to collaborate with my friend Donatella [Versace] again on this gorgeous campaign and to create something new and fresh out of a piece of iconic fashion history.”

EXCLUSIVE: Diesel Teams With Pronounce for China Amplification

LONDON — Pronounce is the latest fashion label to work with Renzo Rosso’s Diesel on a capsule collection. Some pieces from the collection will debut with Pronounce’s fall 2020 fashion show in London, and a show featuring the full lineup will take place during Shanghai Fashion Week in late March.
The capsule will be available in China and in Diesel’s selected global retail network.
The collaboration was developed based on the 40-year-old Diesel’s archive in Breganze, Italy, and founders of the Pronounce brand Yushan Li and Jun Zhou traveled there repeatedly for research in 2019.
They found their journey going through the archive similar to watching a river flow in time. “What inspired us hugely was Diesel’s path from beginning to now, where every single step matters — we were inspired by those ‘watermarks’ in the creative process,” explained Zhou.
Li added that they were greatly inspired by the innovative cutting and textile development they saw in the archive and applied them to new designs. One of the key items in the capsule is a hand-painted raincoat with special patterns sourced from the archive. Techniques involved with water, such as tie-dye and water drop dye, are also a signature for the capsule.

Exclusive: Gucci Releases Mickey Mouse-Themed Capsule Collection

MILAN — Gucci will celebrate the Year of the Mouse with a capsule collection featuring Walt Disney’s most famous rodent: Mickey Mouse.
Launching in stores and online on Friday, the expansive range dedicated to the Chinese New Year — which begins Jan. 25 — offers women’s and men’s ready-to-wear, footwear, small leather goods, scarves, jewelry and timepieces mixing the Florentine fashion house’s signature motifs with the image of the renowned cartoon character, which already popped up in previous Gucci collections, including in the spring 2019 and resort 2020 lineups.
In particular, a new Mini GG Supreme canvas with a Mickey Mouse print has been introduced for this capsule collection. The beige and ebony fabric references a vintage signature Gucci pattern from the Eighties replicated via digital printing to blend it with the image of the cartoon character appearing in varying scale. Finished off by a protective coating and embossing delivering the appearance of linen, the material has been used on footwear, such as slip-on sneakers and the brand’s signature Princetown slippers, as well as handbags and small leather goods, ranging from small bucket bags and mini backpacks to wallets, passport cases and iPhone covers. Baseball caps, luggage sets, hat cases and even hard

Exclusive: Gabriela Hearst to Sponsor Frick Young Fellows Ball

Gabriela Hearst will be the sponsor of this year’s Young Fellows Ball at the Frick Museum, to take place at the museum on March 12.
The annual black-tie event has previously been sponsored by brands like Altuzarra, Escada and Carolina Herrera.
“The museum is obviously a New York institution,” Hearst says. “To be able to have a record of the past in a way — there are not many Gilded Age mansions left. And I am someone who believes that to understand the future you have to learn from the past.”
Hearst, who came to the museum on her first trip to New York, when she was 18 years old — “so we’re talking ancient history” — says that supporting an institution like the museum is important to her as a source of inspiration.
“From a craft perspective and a visual simulation perspective, I find it one of the most rewarding places in the world.”
The brand typically focuses charitable efforts on Save the Children and Our Children’s Trust. “My personal focus is children and the environment, so the future,” says Hearst. “But Wes Gordon is a friend and Paul Arnold invited us to do this and I really like them, so it’s a pleasure.”

His legendary fashion career was ignited by an award. In his twilight years, he acted as a judge for the LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers, leaving most contenders starstruck.
And now he will be immortalized with a fashion prize in his name. LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton confirmed exclusively to WWD that its Special Prize will henceforth

EXCLUSIVE: 424’s Guillermo Andrade to Release Adidas Collaboration

Guillermo Andrade, the designer and cofounder of 424, a fixture in L.A.’s streetwear scene, will release a collection with Adidas, WWD has learned.
“It’s ready-to-wear and footwear….It’s coming [out] before the end of the year,” Andrade said during Guess Jeans U.S.A.’s second annual weekend pop-up experience — dubbed Guess Sport — at the Guess Inc. headquarters in downtown Los Angeles.
Joining other prominent streetwear designers like Pleasures’ Alex James at the event, Andrade was presenting his capsule collection with Guess Jeans U.S.A., a division that, while pulling inspiration from the brand’s Nineties esthetic, has also been focused on producing collaborations with younger labels. The project was spearheaded by brand partnerships director Nicolai Marciano, son of the L.A.-based, family-run business’ cofounder, Paul Marciano.
“We have always been focused on youth, and obviously, in the Eighties, we were really pushing as an original fashion house, and we’ve become a big, global brand in over 100 countries in the world,” shared Nicolai Marciano, who’s been actively taking the brand in this new direction. “It’s become much more lifestyle, and I think commercial [for the] brand. EXCLUSIVE: Thinx Period Panties Are Back, Stronger Than Ever

Thinx, the period panties company that launched in 2011, started off by making a big mark on the menstrual cycle industry. The idea was simple: panties that women can bleed right into, eliminating the need to buy disposable sanitary pads and therefore creating less waste. The idea proved to be popular.
In its sixth year, Thinx had nearly $ 40 million in revenues. Executives said sales at the start-up were even higher last year, as the company continues to raise venture capital money, still clearly in growth mode. The private company, which started with just three people, has also grown to include 67 employees, and has plans to grow to around 80 by the end of 2019.
People are talking about periods. But it wasn’t always this way.
Monthly menstrual cycles first became a topic of water cooler conversations back in 2015 after images of juicy grapefruits and dripping egg yolks adjacent to women donning little more than Thinx panties showed up on subway platforms in New York City, San Francisco, Chicago and Washington, D.C. (The Manhattan Transit Authority initially deemed the images too sexy. But after some public pushback, the ads were allowed to run in New York, sparking a conversation about

EXCLUSIVE: Karl Lagerfeld to Introduce Makeup With L’Oréal Paris

Karl Lagerfeld had a great appreciation for makeup, using eye shadow to hand-color his dreamy fashion illustrations. The late designer was also famous for conceiving entire fashion collections in his sleep — up to and including the beauty look.
Among the many projects he had initiated before his passing in February was a makeup range in collaboration with L’Oréal Paris that channeled his “rock-chic style, fused with a sense of Parisian elegance,” according to the partners.
“This line of makeup truly reflects the Karl Lagerfeld brand universe and what Karl loved in makeup,” said Caroline Lebar, head of image and communication at the Karl Lagerfeld fashion house.
She lauded the inclusive “beauty for all” ethos of L’Oréal Paris, noting, “Karl liked it when a collaboration resonated with a brand and would make a real impact on many people.”
The one-off collection is to be revealed for online sales on Sept. 20 with a global release on Sept. 27 during Paris Fashion Week.
L’Oréal and Lagerfeld are keeping product particulars and pricing under wraps, but said the range would be created with the beauty firm’s “scientific dedication and color expertise.”
The partners also trumpeted their shared “pioneering spirit and commitment to celebrating feminine power, with a relentless

EXCLUSIVE: Tony The Tiger Victim Of Food Terrorist Plot?

Is someone kidding around with beloved breakfast cereal mascot Tony the Tiger with a series of viral videos showing him helping a sex worker, a suicide bomber and a police officer who savagely beats a female suspect?

Or is a food terrorist trying to commit a cereal killing by making Tony look bad?

Kellogg Co. said it had nothing to do with what it called “offensive” videos posted this week showing its Frosted Flakes mascot behaving badly. Evidence uncovered by The Huffington Post suggests a well-known food activist, Jani Leinonen, may be involved.

The latest video shows a battered woman named Anna seated inside a California cafe.

“Last night I experienced the worst physical abuse of my life, for no reason,” reads a description of the video at tonyisback.com. “I feel so humiliated, betrayed, my whole body is aching. I am angry but I have not found the courage to fight back. I was so lost, but Tony came and encouraged me to go ahead with my plan to show people.”

Tony the Tiger, in the video, encourages Anna to go through with her “plan” by eating a bowl of sugary Frosted Flakes — “They’re grrrrreat,” he says in his trademark shout.

After eating a bit of the cereal, Anna stands up and shows she has a bomb strapped to her chest, which detonates as the video ends.

Actress Gina Ferranti shared a video still shot from the film on Instagram, The Huffington Post’s investigation shows. Ferranti lists the role on her acting resume, which identifies the director and production company responsible for “Tony.”

Ferranti, through her agent, declined to comment. The “Tony” listing on her resume was removed Friday night, after this article was published.

Ferranti’s resume identified the “Tony” director as Jani Leinonen, an artist from Finland who has been linked to a group of health-food activists called the Food Liberation Army.

The organization was responsible for the Jan. 31, 2010, theft of a life-size Ronald McDonald statue from a McDonald’s fast food restaurant in central Helsinki, according to NPR.org. The kidnappers threatened to decapitate Ronald unless McDonald’s answered questions about the quality of its food and its work ethics. Finnish police identified Leinonen as a suspect and  jailed him for 30 hours, according to a report on the art news website we-make-money-not-art.com.

Leinonen didn’t respond to a request for comment from HuffPost on Friday.

In her resume, Ferranti identified the company that filmed “Tony” as Route 1, a Los Angeles-based firm that provides production services.

Route 1’s website says the company has worked with a number of well-known corporations, including Kellogg. Route 1’s show reel includes two commercials for Kellogg’s Special K products. The website was taken down after this article was published.

Route 1 recently shared a photo on its Facebook page that shows its ”amazing crew” with Jani Leinonen at the Malibu Pier.

“Thank you Tero, Jani, Anti, and Jani #2 for trusting us with your amazing project,” the post reads.

Route 1 says on Twitter it is a “sister company” of First Breath Films, which boasted of its “controversial” new films in a May 22 Facebook post:

Route 1 responded to a HuffPost query on Facebook. An unnamed person wrote to say “my boss said to tell you” that Route 1 is a “service company” hired by artists and production companies and has “no say or input into the content in any way.”

Jason Lehel of First Breath Films on Friday night said his company “has nothing to do with the Tony shoot.”

A Kellogg spokesperson, who replied to questions without providing a name, said Friday that the company has no relationship with Leinonen, but didn’t say whether it had worked with Route 1.

“As a company grounded in the values of integrity and respect, we recognize people’s right to creative expression,” the Kellogg spokesperson said in an email. “We also believe these videos are offensive and make light of serious issues that deserve real dialogue. Tony is a beloved icon and we will protect the integrity of our brands and our characters.”

This article has been updated to include comments from Route 1 and First Breath Films and to note that the listing for the “Tony” video on Ferranti’s online resume and the Route 1 website both were taken down Friday night.

EXCLUSIVE: Crooked I Criticizes Black Rappers For Being Afraid To Talk About Social Issues (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) With police brutality being a national news story for over a year and the 2016 presidential campaign dominating coverage, some Hip Hop artists have used their status to address social/political issues. According to Kxng Crooked I, more rappers need to step up and speak on the things taking place in America today.

“I just hate the way that Black rappers are scared to talk about what’s going on in America,” said Crooked. “They’re so tune into syrup, pills, weed, cars, women. If you take those subject matters away from them, they don’t rap about sh*t.”

The Slaughterhouse member also mentioned he is thinking about no longer using the word “n*gga.” In Crooked’s view, non-Black people are over abusing the n-word.

“When I say I don’t think you should say that, they say ‘well, you say it’.’ You Know what? I have to give some kind of credit to that comment,” explained Crooked.

EXCLUSIVE – Urban Legends: Part 1 Philly’s Jimmy Da Saint

Urban Legends is an AllHipHop.com original written series based on miraculous individual turnarounds in the urban entertainment world. Our features take a look at influential members in the Hip-Hop music, movie and television communities and we examine how they were able to find a better path despite their rough upbringing in the streets of urban America.
Below in our premiere story, we speak with Jimmy Da Saint about how he was able to overcome a life of crime to become one of the best-selling Black book authors in our era creating the Black Scarface series and others.   Having been incarcerated with the original Rick Ross during his federal prison stint, Jimmy developed an array of skills and published over 30 novels while he was incarcerated in prison. Read more and find out how Jimmy Da Saint put it all together from his own label that included members of State Property (Oschino and Sparks) to his highly successful booking and entertainment agency that he still runs today along with the Philly Hip-Hop Awards. A kid from West-Philly did that, and now he’s a book writer and a successful entrepreneur.

Let us highlight those that have persevered and turned over a new leaf after dealing with personal struggles. People that were caught up in the worlds of drugs and violent crimes but found a better way. They chose to do things the right way and these individuals are being rewarded. Enjoy, hope you learn something.

AllHipHop: If you could talk to me about your upbringing, where you’re from in Philly, how you were raised.  Just kind of want to know a little bit about that.

Jimmy Da Saint: Well I was raised in West Philadelphia, and I grew up – I wouldn’t say poor, see I didn’t know I was poor because my mom made sure I had everything.  So even though I grew up in the projects in West Philadelphia, I always had Christmas and Thanksgiving and Easter and all that kind of stuff.  My mom made sure that me and my brothers and sisters had that.  When I was younger, I was really into sports heavy,  I was a really good baseball player.  I played baseball in high school, junior high school and all that kind of stuff, and then I don’t know what happened.  When I got out of high school I just wanted fast money, I was just influenced by neighborhood drug dealers and guys who were getting fast money. That influenced me and I eventually wound up getting in that same profession – selling drugs and just being the whole street thing.

AllHipHop: So when you were selling drugs, were you selling crack?  Cocaine?  Were you selling weed?  What were you doing?

Jimmy Da Saint: Both.  Crack and cocaine, and I sold a little weed here and there.  I was really wasn’t too big on the weed, but I had it from time to time – I could get it.  I would get it to my workers that I would sell it– I didn’t actually sell it, myself.  I was in a position I had other people selling it for me.

AllHipHop: Right.  OK, go on.
Jimmy Da Saint:  That was it.  And I just got heavy into the whole drug thing and wound up, you know –  while I was in the whole drug business, I was also in the music business.  I was always involved with music because I used to be a rapper,
that happened to just be involved with drugs.  So I’d be selling drugs to other drug dealers that sold drugs for me and I’d be in the studio talkin sh*t and having fun living the life.

I’d be in the studio the majority of the day because I had a studio I owned– me and a friend of mine, they were making music and that’s why I wound up starting a group called ICH, Inner City Hustlers.  Two of the group members of ICH Oschino & Sparks, who I managed,  I wound up getting them a deal– a situation wi Rock-a-fella by Jay-Z.  He wound up signing two of my artists that were in my group.  I also managed a producer named Black Key at the time, and he wound up signing with Ruff Ryders.  He wound up doing a DMX album that was the Great Depression.

AllHipHop: Yeah, I know that.

Jimmy Da Saint: Yeah, I’ve known Black Key and worked with E-Ness since he was 13 –  he used to be Taz, like the Tasmanian Devil.  When I went to prison and came home from prison, he was E-Ness, so that was something new.  It’s like when I knew Cassidy, he was Lil’ B.  I came home from prison, he’s Cassidy.

AllHipHop: Yeah, that’s crazy.

Jimmy Da Saint: Yeah, so I was involved heavily in the music back then, mostly because I wound up getting a record deal, but I continued to sell drugs and I wound up getting in bad.  I was in my barbershop, and a FBI informant came in to buy a kilo of cocaine off me.  I sold him a kilo of cocaine, and I wound up getting indited.  A few days later, the FBI came and kicked my door in.  The person I sold the cocaine to was an informant and I didn’t know that he was working for the FBI.

AllHipHop: That’s crazy.  You pretty much answered my second question  “ICH,”  so you covered that but can you elaborate a bit more on “ICH”

Jimmy Da Saint:  Yeah ICH was pretty big and it’s crazy because in ’97 I was actually shot in an attempted kidnapping. I was in a wheelchair for a while, I was on a dialysis machine because my kidneys blew out, but I survived that and I wound up going right back into the whole drug thing again and I wound up getting indited and getting ten years in a federal prison.

But ICH was always a part of the mix.  ICH was a very, very, very popular group in Philadelphia.  When I came home from federal prison in 2010  I started ICH all over again, a new ICH with newer and younger members but I just stopped ICH, maybe, eight months ago.  I just stopped it and started focusing on one or two artists and not the whole group thing, eight artists at a time.

So I made them popular all over again.  I got XXL featured, if you go to Vibe.com or whatever, you’ll see it pops up. ‘Cause everybody was talking about them, we did a show with Wu-Tang and everybody– DMX, JadaKiss and we were the opening acts for all of them.  So when I came home it was easy for me to get five young, good city rappers, put them all together and I did the ICH all over again.  People remember the original ICH because of Oschino and Sparks.  They know Oschino and Sparks is from the group ICH and Jay-Z signed them and made a group called State Property and put those two members in State Property.

AllHipHop: Yeah.  So with these books and stuff like that, what was the spark that just, kind of made you pick up the pen one day and that kept you at it, you know what I mean?  What drove you?

Jimmy Da Saint:  You know, I just wanted to do something.  I remember the first day I went to prison– I actually started writing the first day I went to prison, day one.  Like, it didn’t take me a month, two months to get in there.  I remember walking in the yard and I was like, “Damn, I got ten years,” and I just wanted to write about it.  It’s just like I wanted to write and I remember they gave us some pens and pads to do something in our spare time– I began to write and I started writing and writing and then I was like, alright, start focusing on my first a book I wrote, called ‘Decisions,’ but I never put it out.

The first book I ever wrote, I let a few people read it and they liked it, then I started continuing to write, write, write and next thing you know I had four or five novels written and I got them typed and everything and I sent it out to a friend of mine, Vicky Stringer, who owns the largest Black independent book company in the world.  I sent it out to her because I was reading her book, and on the inside of her book, she said, “Write me.”

I wrote her and told her I was a book author and she wrote me back and said, “Send me the book.”  I sent it to her, she sent me a number back and said, “Call me as soon as possible.”  I called her, she said, “You got you a two-book deal.  This book is amazing.  I love it and I sent it to my publisher and they want to publish your book.”

And it happened just like that.  I was like, “Really?”  And they gave me advance money, and it was just a book deal– just like a record deal, but it was a book deal.  I was like, “Wow.”  I was just so inspired, I continued to keep writing and writing and writing and I wound up writing thirty novels while I was incarcerated.  I ghost-wrote a few books for other people and I got seventeen novels out right now, and a few are best-sellers.

I was like, “OK, I think I found my niche.”  I got a story to tell, I got shot, I grew up in the projects, I’m from the streets of Philly, I was a real drug dealer, I got indited by the FBI and the DEA, you now what I’m saying?  All my friends– half of my friends been murdered, I was in the rap game. I was with Jay-Z, with Dame Das.  This is my life– this has been my life.  Drugs and rap music has always been my life, so I could talk about this all day.

AllHipHop:  That’s crazy man.  I guess what’s amazing is that, you know, people don’t usually equate author, or novelist with drug dealer, street-shooting rapper – most people in society don’t associate the things at all.  They wouldn’t think that somebody who did that, could do what you did with these books.  What do you say to those people and why do you think you were able to do that?

Jimmy Da Saint:   It’s my life its real. Rick Ross was one of my closest friends in prison.  I walked up to him and I said, “You’re known for being a drug dealer,” and I said, “I can help change that.”  And he laughed and said, “Well what can you do?”  I said to him, “I’ll write a book.  I’m a book author– put best-selling book author next to your name, and we can get rid of that.”

He liked that and he said, “Wow.”  And I did it.  And I wound up writing a number one-selling book, Black Scarface.  That’s why it was co-written by Rick Ross.  I wanted to do something.  I wanted to show that I’m really one of y’all, like, really.  Not a fake one of y’all, I’m really one of y’all.  I’m from the streets.  No father, single mother, projects, crack cocaine, weed cocaine, murders, prison, FBI, rap music– I am that person all the way.  I don’t have to tell you about nobody else life, I can tell you about my life.

AllHipHop: What did you and Rick Ross talk about

Jimmy Da Saint: You know, Rick Ross told me something very important.  I’ll never forget it, he was like,, “Jim, you need to learn the art of networking.”  He said, “You so talented because you could write raps, you could write songs, you could write books.”

I was the commissioner of the basketball league in jail, I gave all those little concerts and poetry shows in jail. I was influential in prison and he was like, “But because you are so talented, these talents are going to go to your head and stuff because everybody depends on you,” He said, “You learn to be more humble and learn how to network more,” he said, “You’ll be a very powerful individual if you can do that.”

He’s the one who told me, “Just like this person over here might not be nobody, and just like this person over here is Jay-Z’s assistant or whatever, whatever, whatever, don’t break your neck for that assistant because everybody is the same and everybody is important.”  He used to tell me this all the time.  And I took that, I came home with that mentality– everyone counts.  Everybody.  Everyone, like this interview with you, or like an interview with Rock Lord Radio, underground radio with three viewers everyday, that’s important to me also.  If I can get my point across to those three individuals.

AllHipHop: Can you talk to me about your new movie with Rick Ross?

My new movie project is called FACE, based off my bestselling novel Black Scarface. It was co written by the real Rick Ross and Rick will be a producer on it. My partners on the project are Vance & Khan from Ruffhouse Records and William Alexander from Crevice Ent. in L.A. so I’m really looking forward to the possibilities on this one.

AllHipHop: Lastly, can you discuss your booking agency in Philly?

My company is called DaSaint Ent.  I manage artists, write books, produce movies, music and concerts with the local Live Nation. I have a back to school show I did with Mone’ Davis and several up and coming talents. I have the Philly Hip Hop awards and several other concerts I work on throughout the year. I’m staying busy!

Exclusive: Michael Ealy & Morris Chestnut Talk Good Vs. Evil In The Perfect Guy

Just in time for cuffing season and autumn date nights, Sony is unleashing the steamy thriller, The Perfect Guy upon audiences. The film splices just the right amount of chocolate box star power as Sanaa Latham stars as Leah, a successful professional who gets involved with a seemingly perfect guy Carter (Michael Ealy) after her longtime relationship with Dave (Morris Chestnut) hits a stagnant point. Unbeknownst to her upon their first date, Carter possesses a lethal alter-ego and when Dave comes back into the picture, an even more serious conflict is spawned.

The film combines the talents of director David M. Rosenthal and writers Alan B. McElroy and Tyger Williams alongside Ealy and Lathan in the executive producer chair. Hip-Hop Wired caught up with both of the leading men of the film and we broke apart their unique dynamic in The Perfect Guy.

Morris, if you had a dollar for every time a fan claimed you were “the perfect guy” how much money would you be holding?

Morris Chestnut: [Laughs] I thought you were going to ask me, if I had a dollar for every time some yelled out ‘Rickyyy’ [from Boyz n the Hood] I’d be a billionaire; I’d be richer than Donald Trump. Luckily I have people and fans who root for me but they don’t really tell me I’m the perfect guy.

You are pretty much the ideal good guy in every movie you play. How close were you to shaking things up this time around?

Morris Chestnut: The shake-up was when I came into the restaurant and had a situation with Mike’s character. That was the closest…and it was fun! Mike’s a really good dude; he’s a great actor and we had a great time shooting it.

Mike, you actually got to play the bad guy. Did you like doing this role?

Michael Ealy: I loved it. I loved everything from start to finish. In terms of coming on board to the project to producing the project and being part of the creative process and developing the script to where it needed to be. And shooting this movie was amazing.

The movie got shot in like a month?

Morris Chestnut: We shot it pretty quickly and it was pretty contained.

Michael Ealy: It was about two months for me.

Was this your first time executive producing, Mike?

Michael Ealy: Yes, the first and definitely won’t be the last. I could definitely see myself behind-the-scenes and transitioning as time goes by.

But the audience doesn’t want to see you behind-the-scenes, though.

Michael Ealy: Yeah…that’s alright [Laughs]. It depends on the content you give them and I think you got to share the love. Everybody has to get the shine in all aspects.

What was it like working with a first-time director?

Michael Ealy: David isn’t a first-time director. He’s a first-time studio director. He’s done independent films and I’ve seen his work and David’s sensibilities were exactly what we needed in this movie. Because he’s not in the studio system, he has more indie traits and once you’ve seen the film, you’ll understand that it’s not as polished as say a Think Like a Man. It’s not as conventional and that’s what we’re going for. It’s a genre piece and people know the genre but we shot it from a grimy sensibility opposed to relying on other troupes from other movies.

With a stalker tale like this, we’ve started to see it more prevalent in the news. Is there some sort of domestic violence message in this film?

Morris Chestnut: I definitely think so. I’d say the overall message is really trying to get to know the person [that you date]. Take your time and don’t rush into anything too quickly and really learn to understand them.

Michael Ealy: I’d say this story is bigger than domestic violence. I think domestic violence almost simplifies the script because it’s not a case of domestic or verbal abuse–that’s What’s Love Got to Do with It. This is a thriller–like a romantic, psychological thriller if you will–and it’s more about Carter’s goal. Carter’s goal isn’t to hurt Leah. Carter’s goal is to make Leah do what he wants, which is to love him. As long as she’s loves him, then she’s going to be O.K. and that’s the sociopath in him talking. It’s about control and power.

Is Carter setting light-skinned brothers back with this film?

Michael Ealy: You know…[Laughs]…no! People have made this comment and that’s not really the goal. And I feel like there will be a couple of light-skinned brothers that will be proud of this [Laughs]. But I don’t think being a sociopath has anything to do with the tone of anyone’s skin so that won’t apply here and people will see that in the movie.

Speaking of Ricky, did you get a chance to check out Straight Outta Compton yet, Morris?

Morris Chestnut: I haven’t! I’ve been working on this TV show, Rosewood and it’s been really hard for me to take out 2 1/2 hours for the movie. But I’m definitely going to see it real soon.

How do you feel about being on TV once again?

Morris Chestnut: It’s a blessing, to having the opportunity and I’m looking forward to it doing well. The good thing about a movie is you get a lot of time to sit in your trailer to get your character right. TV shows move so fast which could be a good and a bad thing. Some time you don’t get to get into a scene as much but it’s also good not waiting like eight hours just to shoot the first shot.

Both of you guys are part of a pretty tight-knit group of Black Hollywood. When you get a script and see that one or the other–like Sanaa Latham is on board, does it make an automatic go for you?

Morris Chestnut: For me, that was definitely one of things seeing both Sanaa and Michael were involved. I said, ‘Wow, these are two high-caliber actors and I want to be a part of it and add to the mix and see if we can make something special.’ And our characters never really worked together in the movies that we’ve done together so this was a chance for that happen.

Michael Ealy: We had a good crew. Working with Sanaa was something I wanted to do for a long time and she didn’t disappoint because she’s just that good. And funny…so funny.

Trailers look like they give a lot of the movie away but they really don’t. What can people expect from The Perfect Guy?

Morris Chestnut: They give some good moments away but there’s still the journey. A lot of times what I find is when it’s a good movie that’s well-executed, you kind of forget the trailer and getting engrossed in the movie step-by step, so hopefully this happens with this one.

Michael Ealy: There is still plenty of good moments that haven’t been given away and I can’t wait for people to see those moments, seeing that the studio has been playing nice.

The Perfect Guy hits theaters tomorrow, September 11. Pre-purchase your tickets on Fandago.

Exclusive! IMG Is Growing New York Fashion Week Presence With New HQ

IMG fashion week

IMG’s expanded reach over New York Fashion Week isn’t limited to its show spaces (this season’s venues include Moynihan Station and Skylight Clarkson Sq), its recent acquisition of Made Fashion Week, or the sleek black-and-white logo that will appear on invites and the like. IMG is also launching NYFW HQ, a programming space to be located at 451 West Fourteenth Street, the south side of the building that houses Milk Studios.

To those who think it’ll serve as a lounge for editors and buyers to rest their stilettoed feet between shows, think again. HQ will showcase art installations, talk series, and additional events from September 11 to September 16. Some happenings will be open to the public, others will require IMG’s NYFW credentials, and several will be invitation-only. “Typically these sorts of events are happening around us, but no one has really corralled everything into one hub and had a broader, overarching conversation about what’s happening in fashion,” says IMG’s Leslie Russo. “We wanted to be the ones to introduce that conversation during the week.”

It’s bound to be a lively one. Some shows will be live-streamed and rebroadcast from the windows of HQ, and they’re expecting large crowds to gather on the sidewalk to watch. No invite necessary. Can’t make it? IMG will be promoting its programming on its @nyfw social channels and on nyfw.com.

EXCLUSIVE: Jon Connor Talks ‘Compton’ Studio Sessions with Dr. Dre, the ‘Straight Outta Compton’ Movie, and Getting Signed to Aftermath

On Tuesday, August 11, AllHipHop.com had the wonderful opportunity to speak with Aftermath recording artist (and AHH Breeding Ground alumni), Jon Connor.  The Flint, Michigan, native’s skills and tireless dedication to his craft have really been paying off as late.  Not only did he sign with the legendary Dr. Dre, but he also made two outstanding contributions to Dre’s Compton offering.connor-dre

During our conversation, Connor, among other things, broke down what its like working with one of the best producers to ever do it, shared memories of being on the set for Straight Outta Compton, and hinted that he has more dope music on the way.

One of the things he said to me while wrapping up was, “At the end of the day, I’m a fan of Hip-Hop just like everybody else.  I’m one of the people.”  And that is something which, even with all his success, has never evaded him.

If Connor continues to build on his already strong pillars of talent, respect for Hip-Hop culture, and gratitude for his fans, he will have a long and successful career which surpasses the competition.

It’s still Aftermath and there ain’t goin’ be nothin’ after that!

AllHipHop.com: Thank you so much for taking time to speak me and AllHipHop.com.  We really appreciate it.  You and I have talked before and that was a real pleasure, so I’ve been looking forward to this interview.

Jon Connor: I want to say back, the same thing with you all.  It’s mutual.  I appreciate you all and the way you have always supported me from day one.  It’s always a pleasure, man.

First off, congratulations on the Compton album.  Are you pleased with the response it has been getting?

Yes, there has been an overwhelming love.  And just knowing that everybody has been so excited and finally we get this project from Dre that people have been waiting so long for.  The love is overwhelming; the response has been amazing.  And the way it’s going hand-in-hand with the Straight Outta Compton movie, you couldn’t ask for a better platform or set up.

I’ve seen social media pics of you, Dre, and others in the studio where you’ve referred to yourself as a “student.”  What would you say is the greatest lesson you’ve learned from these sessions?

There’s so many because, with Dre, Dre is the greatest producer of all-time.  For me, he’s like the Quincy Jones of Hip-Hop.  So the thing is, everyday you’re constantly learning.  I’d say one of the greatest things I’ve learned from Dre is that greatness is in the details.  Don’t let anything slide.  If you’re tired or haveDre, Game, Jon Connor been working for 12 hours and are ready to go to sleep, you still put in the same effort and the same time as when you first got there.  Work your hardest until you can barely keep your eyes open.  If you have to go through every song and comb through every lyric and melody and harmony and cadence, you do it because he [Dr. Dre] has a commitment to greatness.  We all call Dr. Dre the greatest of all-time and I’m just fortunate and blessed enough to be able to be at the studio and understand why.  I’ve always thought I had a grind and hard work ethic in me, but, by being around Dre, it just got taken to another level.

Just to follow up with that, to paint a picture, have you been in the studio with Dre where you’ve watched him make a beat?  Or has it been where he has pulled up an instrumental and asked you to write to it?  How does that whole process work?

That process is actually different from record to record.  There are joints where I was actually there for the conception of the music.  Like “One Shot One Kill,” I was there when that beat got made.  “One Shot One Kill” is like my baby *laughs*.  I watched it go from an idea and a sample to the addition of the live instrumentation and Snoop and everything that it eventually ended up becoming.  But it’s different from record to record, Dre is the type of cat where it’s all based on the feel.  If he’s feeling it and the vibe and the energy is there… he doesn’t care how the creative process happens.  The one common denominator in every record is that the vibe and positive energy is there.

That’s actually a great segue into one of my other questions.  What went through your head when you first found out that you were given song credit as the lead performing artist on “One Shot One Kill” as opposed to just being a guest feature?

I still don’t know if that has completely soaked into my brain.  It’s crazy.  I have a record with me featuring Snoop Dogg on Dr. Dre’s last album.  That’s beyond anything I could have ever dreamed.  It feels amazing.  Statik Selektah hit me and he said, “You are forever etched in Hip-Hop history.”  And the magnitude of that statement, I don’t know if I’ll ever really be able to fathom or truly understand it.  All I know is that it’s an amazing feeling and honestly it’s hard for me to even put it in words.

And then, of course, there’s “For the Love of Money”  which you also appear on.  Prior to telling a friend about this interview, he sent me a screenshot of his phone with that song highlighted and a caption which read “This song is on repeat.”  He told me how he looked you up, and I said that I’d been following your work for years.  You’re satisfying old fans and getting new ones.  It’s a beautiful thing, bro.

And with that I want to say ‘thank you’ and tell your man I said, ‘thank you‘ too.  It’s an amazing time.  This is my dream.  I’m a kid from Flint, Michigan, man.  It’s one of the most poverty-stricken places in the United States and so for us to be talking about the things we’re talking about, I’m truly humbled by that and I just to let the people know there’s more where that came from and I’ll forever be thankful to Dre for giving me this platform.  And I want to thank AllHipHop because you’ve all been rocking with me for years and y’all know the grind that I’ve put down and how hard I worked for this.  And with Dre, he saw and understood me as an artist and believed in me enough to give me a platform.  I’m just humbled by all of this.

One of the things I did to prepare for this is I went back and listened to “Big Brother” off of your Best in the World series.  And listened to how you described the whole scenario where Dre signed you.  How did that situation play out?

Yo, it was three phone calls and a flight.  There was the initial call when Xzibit hit me like, “Yo, I’m gonna let Dre hear your music.”  Then the second call was, “Okay, give me 10 songs you want Dre to hear.”  Then the third call was, “Dre wants you to be in California tomorrow.”  When I got to California, I was working the whole time.  Think about it, man.  I’m from Flint.  If you’re from Flint, you think Dr. Dre lives on like Mars or Jupiter.  And so for him to like your music… he was just playing beats and I rapped every verse I ever wrote.  I was pulling out verses from high school.  I was like I’m not leaving this house until Dr. Dre falls in love with what I do.  Whatever he needed to hear, I was gonna spit it.  It got to the point where I rapped so much, he finally just stopped the music and was like, “Alright, what do you want to do?”  And that was the moment that changed my life.

Thoughts on Straight Outta Compton?

It’s crazy, my experiences with the movie because I was fortunate enough to go on the set as they were making the movie.  There’s no weirder feeling, I was on the set one day where they were shooting a scene with the characters that play Dr. Dre and his wife Nicole.  And I’m sitting in one of these chairs on set as the real Dr. Dre and Nicole are sitting in front of me.  I leaned into Dre and was like, “Man, do you feel crazy right now?”  When I got signed to Aftermath, the movie was still at its infant stage where they still coming up with the script and picking actors.  I had a chance to legitimately watch this movie grow and become what it has become…  I think people already know it’s going to be good because it’s the story of N.W.A and we all want to see it,  but just the attention to detail that Gary, Dre, and Cube put into the movie – I think it’s going to surprise people because they’ll be things about N.W.A and their relationship and how things went down that none of us as fans knew.  It’s a great movie for Hip-Hop and a great movie in the sense of just being a great movie.

Jumping back to music, do you have any more “Best in the World” stuff coming out or is your next release going to be your Aftermath debut with original music?

You know what?  I don’t want to give away too much, but just know that the things that I am working on are almost done.  And we are so close to completion, it’s crazy.  But right now though, I just want the people to enjoy Compton.  For me right now, it’s all about Dre and thirty years plus of the greatest to ever do it.  It’s Dre Day!

Here’s How April Bloomfield Does Healthy Gazpacho: 3 Exclusive Recipes for the Weekend

gazpacho recipes

In these sweltering days, it’s perfectly normal to experience cravings of ice cream and ice water exclusively—anything warmer may seem to border on masochistic. Alas, swimming, surfing, and even lounging on the beach require a healthy source of sustenance. Which brings us to gazpacho: The chilled soup—which delivers a burst of flavor in the form of a fruit- or vegetable-based broth—is the quintessential summer meal.

Yet as any aspiring foodie can tell you, a pitch-perfect execution is necessary in the kitchen, with lesser attempts resulting in something that more closely resembles, well, salsa.  With this in mind, we reached out to April Bloomfield. The exacting chef—whose culinary triumphs include her simple, meat-laden menus for The Spotted Pig and The Breslin—recently released a veggie-centric cookbook, A Girl and Her Greens. She took on the fresh produce-driven challenge, creating three exclusive gazpacho recipes for Vogue.com that range from a cucumber and tomatillo blend thickened with protein-rich (and low fat) Lebanese yogurt, to an anti-inflammatory take on watermelon (spiked with refreshing mint) that will help you chill out and fill up.

Traditional Gazpacho

Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients
2 lbs. heirloom tomatoes, eyes and whites removed
1 medium cucumber, peeled
1 shallot
1/2 jalapeño pepper
1 red bell pepper, seeds and whites removed, skin peeled
2 T Jacobsen sea salt
1 clove garlic, thinly sliced
1/8 cup picked mint leaves
1/8 cup picked opal or green basil, torn
1/4 cup sherry vinegar
1/4 cup olive oil
1/4 cup breadcrumbs

Dice the tomatoes, cucumber, shallot, jalapeño, and red pepper separately into medium-size pieces, about three-quarters to one-inch thick. Combine the chopped vegetables in a bowl and add the salt, garlic, mint, basil, sherry vinegar, and olive oil, and toss until the vegetables are well-coated.  Cover the mixture with a lid and pop in the refrigerator until chilled—about an hour or so.

Using a slotted spoon, place the tomato mixture in a blender (leaving the excess liquid in the bowl) and purée until smooth and a rich orangey-red color. Add the breadcrumbs and remaining liquid from the bowl and purée until it is completely smooth and almost creamy. Sprinkle in a bit more salt if need be, and serve cold in a chilled glass. Garnish with a handful of fresh chopped basil and mint.

Watermelon Gazpacho

Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients
2 lbs. watermelon, seeds removed and diced into 1-inch cubes
8 oz. diced tomato, seeds and whites removed
8 oz. cucumber, peeled and diced into medium-sized cubes
1 red bell pepper, stem and seeds removed, diced into 1/2 inch size pieces
1 ají dulce pepper, stem and seeds removed
1/4 cup red onion, finely chopped
1 clove garlic, roughly chopped
juice of one lemon
1/2 cup olive oil
3 T Jacobsen sea salt

Garnish
Thinly sliced red onion
Gaeta olives
Feta cheese
Cilantro
Black mint

Combine the watermelon, tomato, cucumber, bell pepper, ají dulce pepper, onion, and garlic in a large bowl and add the lemon juice, olive oil, and salt. Gently toss until the vegetables are well-coated in the oil and lemon juice. Cover the mixture with a lid and pop in the refrigerator until chilled—about an hour.

Gently spoon the watermelon-tomato mixture in a blender, leaving the excess liquid in the bowl. Purée until smooth and almost creamy in texture. Sprinkle in a bit more salt, if need be, and serve cold in a chilled glass. I like to garnish this soup with a few delicate slivers of red onion, an olive or two, and feta crumbles for added tanginess. A few sprigs of fresh of cilantro and black mint top it all off beautifully and add extra aromatics.

Cucumber and Tomatillo Soup

Yields: 8 servings

Ingredients
12 cucumbers (or less depending if they are large)—a lovely market mix cut into small/medium pieces, skin left on if not tough
3 garlic cloves, peeled and split in half
3/4 whole jalapeno, thinly sliced
3/4 stale baguette
3/4 cup high-quality red wine vinegar
1 heaping cup of Marcona almonds
7 1/2 cups small tomatillos
2 1/2 cups grassy extra-virgin olive oil
3 cups labneh
1 1/2 green apples, cored and cut into medium chunks
1 1/2 bunches of basil (leaves only)
3/4 bunch chives, roughly chopped

To preserve the lovely pale green color of the soup, the key is to make sure everything is nicely chilled before you start blending (including the pitcher for the blender). It’s best to have all the ingredients premixed in one bowl before blending.

Wash and cut all of the vegetables into small to medium pieces. Trim off and discard the crusts from your stale baguette. Tear the remaining baguette into small bits. Add the red wine vinegar to a bowl with the bread. Run a sharp knife through the herbs once or twice. Add all of the remaining ingredients to the bowl and mix. You will make this recipe in three batches in the blender, filling the blender by no more than half each time; otherwise it won’t blend properly and you will overwork the machine. Puree until smooth and creamy with a beautiful pale-green color, then pass through a fine-mesh strainer.

To Garnish
The beauty of this soup is that it makes a great base for so many finishing ingredients. Raw diced scallops marinated in chili and citrus or lightly poached shrimp would be appropriate, as would topping it with cucumbers, chives, basil, mint, and melon. I like to also add a little more labneh and olive oil for a bit of indulgence.

Exclusive: Warcraft Director Duncan Jones Discusses Comic-Con Character Sculpts, Unveiling

2015-07-08-1436397804-4138011-ORGRIM_5W1A6315.jpg

Azeroth comes to San Diego this weekend as Legendary Pictures and effects company Weta Workshop reveal two major character sculpts and weaponry from director Duncan Jones’ anticipated fantasy epic Warcraft at San Diego Comic-Con.

And we joined Jones for a walkthrough and exclusive look at the characters of Ogrim Doomhammer and King Llane of the Alliance before the sculpts were revealed to the public on Wednesday’s Preview Night.

Based in the fantasy realm of Azeroth, the June 2016 epic Warcraft — based on Blizzard Entertainment’s video game franchise — revolves around the early encounters between humans and orcs. But when attendees enter the convention hall, the world of fantasy and motion capture special effects won’t seen so far away.

Instead, the massive, battle-scarred and toothy Ogrim looks ready to throttle anyone brave enough to come close to him at the Legendary booth. He is perched on a shelving of rocks and vanquished enemies, clasping his hammer in his right hand, while the left looks ready to snatch up a human-sized snack. Meanwhile, Llane is flanked by soldiers, appearing regal in glinting steel armor, ready for battle at the Weta booth (appropriate since Weta was behind most of the physical costumes, armor, and weaponry seen in the film).

Meanwhile, Duncan Jones looks downright giddy; he has a good reason to be.

Not only is this the first time he had seen the Comic-Con sculpts, beyond concept art as it came together, but the director of Moon and Source Code is putting the finishing touches on his film. After joining the project in 2013, and directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Charles Leavitt, he said he has about eight or nine effects left to work on, but that there is a pretty complete film — one which is getting a big push at Saturday’s Legendary panel at SDCC.

In the following interview, Jones spoke about seeing the Weta creations in person, as well as his mindset heading into the con with Warcraft, and what attendees in the hallowed nerdy ground of Hall H might witness on Saturday.

2015-07-08-1436397852-2134529-DUNCAN_JONES_5W1A6121.jpg

What was your initial thought upon seeing these Warcraft sculpts?

It’s so cool because we’ve been working on this film for a while now, and the VFX shots have been coming in all the time. They look exquisite and amazing, but to actually see him in person – the physical presence of Ogrim and how thick and huge he is — is really cool.

The sculpts from Weta are stunning. There is also King Llane and a whole troop of soldiers, which is magnificent. And that’s the armor we used in the film. It is an amazing installation.

Do you think this will serve as a way for fans to get into this movie?

Absolutely. This will give people a great sense of the scale of these heroic characters. Ogrim is a pretty large dude, and Llane is very impressive I his armor. I think they’re getting to see an awful lot of stuff, some of which was actually used in the movie as well. It is more than just an exhibition of the style; a lot of this is from the film.

2015-07-08-1436397922-56256-KING_LLANE_5W1A6137.jpg

As a fan of the Warcraft games and sci-fi, talk about how this kind of installation impacts you when you’re bringing a film to the con.

I think the sculpts themselves are icing on the cake. Just the fact you get to go down to Comic-Con, there with a film, makes it a ridiculously exciting experience. I used to go down to the con before I had films involved, so going from just being a fan seeing other people’s stuff to going down with something of your own ramps up the excitement level even more.

How important is Comic-Con for a film’s unveiling?

It is an exponentially growing event for genre films. There is a pretty huge spectrum — from science fiction to super heroes to fantasy and beyond — and we certainly have something where we want to promote this new world. And stake a claim for the fantasy territory that used to be pretty exclusively for the Lord of the Rings films and Tolkien. We have a whole new take on fantasy that we want to show to that audience.

In May Wired ran an interview with you where you said you still had about 50 out of 1,000 effects shots left to work on. So how close is the film to completion?

That number is down to about eight or nine shots left. Our scoring is done, and we’re doing some final mixing. We are doing tweaks to the color grade, but we pretty much have a complete film now. I think everyone is feeling pretty strongly that we have something we can be proud of. The release date is exceptional for us. It is going to be the same release date as Jurassic World was this year, and that’s a good place to be.

So you can pop open that bottle of champagne and celebrate at the con?

Maybe, but not just yet. I don’t want to tempt fate. But I am feeling really good about the film. I’ve shown it to a few people I really trust who are more than happy to be blunt and honest, and they said good things.

You’re working with Industrial Light and Magic for the digital effects, but also with Weta for costumes, weapons, etc. Will you discuss your working relationship with these two giant houses?

Weta has both the digital side and the physical side to the work they do. We used them for a vast amount of the physical side of creating assets, and sculpts for photomatching on set. Weta did a huge amount with us to realize this world. They are phenomenal at what they do. We have also, obviously, been able to work with ILM on the postproduction on the CG side. Their work has also been outstanding. They’re bar has been raised in order to compete with the work Weta Digital does. I think there is a fantastic battle going on between two titans, as far as Weta and ILM trying to one up each other with each film. Right now I think ILM has done an extraordinary job with our film.

This is the very best place you can be in. You want competition and want skilled people wanting to show what they can do in competition with each other. Right now Weta and ILM are doing the best work.

What can we expect from the panel at the con?

There is an awful lot of stuff going on. I am very unsure how much I can talk about. They want to make the reveals as surprising as possible. We do have the panel with most of our main cast there, and we are going to be showing … something that should be a great taster of what to expect from the film. We are doing so much stuff I’m hoping I’ll be given time to actually enjoy the con.

What do you want to take home from the booth?

Actually, there is something that I really want to take home. Over by the Ogrim sculpt, there is a small window that has Garona’s Dagger. That’s very important in the film, and I’d love to get that.

Finally, what is a suggested photo op pose when fans see the sculpts?

I think the thing to do is be realistic. You’re going to get your ass kicked by either Llane or Ogrim, so you should probably be in a death pose.

If you have a chance to see that Ogrim sculpt, you’re really in a perfect place to be pummeled. Maybe you don’t do a death pose, because it looks like he’s about to do the first hit. But I don’t think you’ll survive it. So: Fear! Fear is the thing you want to channel.

Silento Explains How “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)” Went Viral [Exclusive]

You haven’t been able stand two minutes near a computer this year without being subjected to the “Watch Me Nae Nae” song. The viral dance hit (officially titled “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)” has been the subject of many YouTube and Vine renditions but only the creator, Silento has the magic ingredient behind the record. At seventeen-years-young, the ATL native already has a gold-selling single and a label deal with Capital Records with nothing but potential ahead.

Now history has shown us that these sort of break-out hits don’t exactly lead to substantial careers but Silento insists that he’s not an one-hit wonder when we grilled him about the notion at the 2015 Bet Awards.

“Before [“Watch Me Nae Nae”], I was making other music; rapping and singing. That’s just the attention track,” a confident Silento tells Hip-Hop Wired. As fate would have it, his claim to fame started by playing around on social media.

“At first…I was having fun at school; just singing out of my mouth. And I recorded for fifteen seconds and put it on my Instagram,” Silento recalled. After getting several hundred comments, his next move could be considered a no-brainer.

“Then from there, I capitalized and made it a song,” he admitted.

Watch our interview with Silento below and buy “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)” on iTunes. The recently released official video can be seen below.

Exclusive: Tink Names Her Top 3 Female Rappers [VIDEO]

Earlier in the year, Hip-Hop Wired presented the world with a definitive list for the best female rappers every to cold rock a microphone.

On the flipside, Timbaland protégé Tink has been the most exciting female rapper to hit the scene since obviously, Nicki Minaj. So much to the point where grouping her into a generalized “female rappers” category wouldn’t do her skill set any justice.

Nonetheless, the Chicago MC respects the game and rattled off her top three females of all-time (who not-so-ironically appeared at the top of our aforementioned list).

As for her highly anticipated debut album Think Tink, she insists that the project is still slated for a fall release but building a buzz opposed to a black album is still priority No. 1.

Who can blame her? Watch our BET Awards interview with Tink above.

Exclusive: Kenny Smith Reveals Appropriate Age For Kids To Listen To Hip-Hop [VIDEO]

Kenny Smith is easily the x-factor and most sensible bridge between basketball IQ and Hip-Hop culture on the award-winning Inside the NBA.

Now, the two-time NBA champion is currently putting that personality to another use with his family oriented reality show on TBS, Meet the Smiths, which stars his wife, Price is Right model Gwendolyn Osborne-Smith, and their five children.

While out in Los Angeles for the 2015 BET Awards, Hip-Hop Wired asked the Smiths when it was cool to listen to the DJ Mustard’s and the London’s on the Tracks who permeate his iPod.

Although a network such as TBS has obviously recognized the Smiths as a batch of responsible parents, even The Jet admits that you can’t keep a watchful eye on your kids 100 percent of the time.

“When [they] start listening to the unedited, you probably don’t know,” he admits. “I think [us as parents] started noticing it when our son got more into playing basketball and [rap music] was motivating him to play harder,” Mrs. Smith chimed in.

To put it frankly, PG-13 ratings and parental advisory labels are close cousins.

The Jet also pointed out the apparent relationship between Hip-Hop and basketball cultures, seeing that the both are rooted in the streets.

Watch the Smiths’ Hip-Hop Wired interview about and tune into their new show on TBS.

Exclusive! Axel Arigato’s First Collection of Women’s Sneakers

Photo: Courtesy of Axel Arigato

Though you might not have heard the name Axel Arigato, chances are your boyfriend has. The stealth sneaker label is among a new wave of footwear labels, such as Common Projects and Eytys, who are championing the look of polished athleticism, and now Axel Arigato just launched its first women’s collection. “Simplistic style with luxe detailing,” is how Swedish designer and cofounder Max Svärdh describes the aesthetic. The Axel Arigato slip-ons and high-tops certainly have the look, feel, and style of a fashion sneaker, but thankfully without the couture price tag; in fact, their most coveted kicks often sell out online in a matter of weeks.

The new women’s shoes come by popular demand too, after multiple pleas from female sneaker heads on social media. The resulting collection sees the brand’s signature style made over in bold and delicate colorways alike, from a dusty pink slip-on to an oxblood ostrich embossed lace-up. They’re sneakers that fit into the kind of an urban wardrobe that runs the gamut of minimalist Céline dresses and graphic tees from Supreme. “If you’re a strong, fearless, and selfless woman,” says Svärdh with a smile, “we have the shoes for you.”

The Gucci Fall 2015 Campaign Is Alessandro Michele’s First. Here’s An Exclusive First Look.

Only six months ago, Alessandro Michele was promoted from head accessories designer at Gucci to his new post as the label’s creative director. In short, it was huge news.

The lofty position obviously drew a white-hot spotlight to his first major collection, Fall 2015. Michele quickly impressed critics with his ’70s-inspired, relaxed luxury designs — and fashion insiders and fans alike have been waiting for the collection’s campaign.

Well, the wait is over. We’re thrilled to offer an exclusive first look at Gucci’s Fall 2015 campaign.

Glen Luchford

“I wanted to bring my creative vision to life through this advertising campaign, the first one featuring my collections,” Michele told The Huffington Post. “I decided to go back to the streets, as with the Cruise collection I just showed in New York. I believe there is a fluid and organic contamination that exists between the catwalk and the street. Fashion, especially ready-to-wear, is something real, made for everyday and for everyone to express their own creativity and individuality.”

Floral printed logo handbags, ruffled frocks and fur-lined loafers certainly speak to that mission. The campaign was photographed by Glen Luchford, who captured models Tessa Charlotte Bruinsma, Tobias Lundh, Lia Pavlova, and Sven de Vries dressed in the eye-catching designs in an urban backdrop — a place of “unexpected events, rifts, remnants and amnesias” and a place for “mingling of reality and desire,” Michele said in a press release.

Blue Camus: Chatting With Ben Sidran, Plus An Irontom Exclusive

2015-06-02-1433214308-8203835-3770000294125.jpg

A Conversation with Ben Sidran

Mike Ragogna: Ben, Blue Camus is your thirty-first album. From your perspective, what did you achieve on this album that you didn’t on the previous thirty?

BS: On the one hand, every record is like a child; you love them all and wish them the best. I love this one because it has a combination of great grooves and intellectual investigation that just doesn’t happen these days, if it ever did. But I’ve always admired jazz musicians for their global perspective; they tend to be improvisers in not just their music lives but in their lives in general, and so they read, they think, they talk about ideas. This CD captures this.

MR: In 2012, you released Don’t Cry For No Hipster to your usual critical acclaim, good sales and successful tour. As you’re moving forward creatively with Blue Camus, what do you notice is changing in the creative and, I’ll say it, also business process?

BS: Obviously, the recording business is at the end of a long ten-year slide, moving away from physical product to streaming and subscription models. So the business of the business is changing dramatically and relentlessly. From a creative perspective, nothing changes. I wake up in the morning and try to deal with the problems in front of me, whether they’re musical or personal or just intellectual. Then, a little further down the road, I always look forward to going out and playing gigs with my friends. It’s like boys night out. It’s one of the payoffs of doing the work.

MR: Would you please give us the tour of the album, like how it was mapped out creatively, what your favorites are for whatever reasons, and what is the big or holistic statement that it’s making?

BS: Every album is the same and every album is different. The process of recording always involves solving the problems at hand, and each time, the problems are different. This time it was a matter of fitting brief philosophical narratives into free form grooves in a way that the listener hears the whole thing as a series of songs, emotions, movements, colors. From my point of view, every album I make is exactly that: an album. I try to make the sequence and the material flow so that the experience of listening to it is cumulative. Of course, that is not the current fashion. Today it’s all about singles and nobody cares where in the album sequence you might find Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk.” I don’t even know if it’s on a physical album or just on the streaming services, where sequence is irrelevant. But I have the luxury of thinking about these things.

The holistic statement, if there is one, is about living a human-scale life in our modern world, which most people would agree is out of control with technology, ambition, cynicism and just plain cash. Referencing the existential philosopher Albert Camus in the song “Blue Camus” is a reference to his search for meaning–even just feeling–in the modern world. This is a problem we all face; we eat without tasting, look without seeing, listen without hearing. We are not in our bodies and so we often feel lost or disconnected. Music is one of the great emotional anchors in our lives so it’s natural to try to set up a nice groove and welcome the listener to check it out: “If you don’t say what you want, want what you say, you’re just hanging in the cut between avant and passe…” is the relevant line.

The song “A is For Alligator” pretends to be a children’s song but is really about capitalism. Is it really possible to let the alligator play in the bathtub? Of course not; the alligator will eat you, or you will eat it. Capitalism. I dedicate it to George Orwell because Animal Farm used the same structural conceit.

There are also some nostalgic hipster moments like “Dee’s Dilemma,” an obscure jazz song from the ’60s updated with a Crusader’s kind of funk groove. The point being, I have not forgotten the music I loved fifty years ago; I am still a witness to the execution and I find some comfort in knowing that you stand for something or you’ll fall for anything.

“There Used to Be Bees” is an instrumental meant to capture the motion and wonder of watching bees in my garden and then suddenly grasping the inevitable moment that’s coming when, as there will be with frogs and elephants and so many other species that human’s have no time or respect for, they will be no more. Again, a human scale perspective. Bees are just trying to make a living, not a killing. People can learn from that.

“The King of Harlem” is based on the Federico Garcia Lorca poem “Poet In New York.” I wrote it several years ago when I was asked to participate in the celebration at the New York Public Library of the discovery of the original manuscript. I saw it as a piece of music dedicated to a lyrical work of personal passion. Lorca had come from Spain to New York in 1929 just as the stock market crashed and even though he spoke very little English, he became very involved with the dark side of the city, both through the economic panic and the dangerous life of its homosexual community, or which he was a part. I wanted it to feel like Lorca’s words felt to me, to try to capture the emotional universe he invoked, without having to be literal about. His poem was about modernism and what the modern world does to its inhabitants. You can start to see a theme here I guess; I’m very interested in how humanity can survive all its great technological success.

“Wake Me When It’s Over” is an attempt to call political gridlock what it is. I wrote it when the Tea Party was holding the government hostage. “Too many people got nothing to say but they’re saying it louder and louder every day.”

MR: You were part of Steve Miller’s band for many years. What do you feel you added to his projects best? Do you have any favorites from that catalog of work?

BS: Well, I’m best known for co-writing the song “Space Cowboy” and I guess my contributions to his lyrics were my initial contributions, that and editing things he had written early on. Over the years, I also hooked him up with songs and musicians. For example, back in 1973, I produced the blues musician Paul Pena who wrote a song called “Jet Airliner” and when Steve heard it, he went to Paul and bought the rights to it and turned it into a huge hit. And many of the musicians he worked with for years, like drummers Gary Mallaber and Gordy Knudtson, came to him through me.

MR: Since you’ve been in at least three worlds of music–rock, pop and jazz–what do you think about the states of those genres these days?

BS: I really don’t think of music categorically. I know there are categories, particularly in record stores–if there are any such things anymore–and in Billboard charts, but I have never been able to figure them out or understand my place in them; perhaps if I could, I would be better known.

MR: What has the jazz format allowed you to express or accomplish that Steve Miller’s band and other rock and pop acts you worked with didn’t?

BS: In a pop band like Steve Miller’s you attempt to give the kids what they want, which is exactly what they heard the first time they heard the hit song on the radio. You play the same arrangement, without any additional notes or too many changes in the arrangement. And you generally play in front of a large audience so you have to play very simply so the kids in the back can follow along. You don’t want to loose them in any controversy. Steve always used to say, “That’s the problem with jazz musicians; they always want to add notes that aren’t there.”

It’s not the same as playing simply. Playing blues or R&B, you play simply but with authenticity and conviction. Pop music is basically an act, an evening of theater that the kids get to play along with. Blues, R&B and jazz are all authentic forms of Americana and leave room for personal expression, digression, recapitulation and are often better served in smaller venues and to a more intelligent or experienced group of people.

MR: What’s the story behind your commitment to jazz?

BS: When I was a young kid, maybe seven years old, I heard “Pine Top’s Boogie” by Pine Top Smith and it really spoke to me. I was taking piano lessons so I went to my teacher and she provided me with a boogie-woogie book. Then when I was thirteen, I heard the Horace Silver record Six Pieces of Silver, which just floored me. I must have listened to that record a hundred times, over and over again, like an Eskimo huddled around a fire, being warmed by the music and convinced that if I heard it just one more time, I would understand it, or be able to somehow translate what I was hearing into my own life. When I discovered that Horace and the others were black, I immediately understood that race is a chimera; there is only one race, the human race, and everything else is local color. The music spoke to me of deep humanity and a kind of profound, everyday spirituality that suggested we are all brothers, we are all related and that we can get better, feel better–even happy–if we live the right way.

MR: Who influenced you?

BS: As a piano player, I would say Erroll Garner, Horace Silver, Dave Brubeck, Bud Powell, Sonny Clark, George Shearing, Freddy Redd, Wynton Kelly, Ray Charles, Thelonious Monk, Barry Harris, Tommy Flanagan, Red Garland, Count Basie, Fats Waller, Bill Evans, and, of course, Pine Top Smith.

MR: Beyond Blue Camus material, do you have any personal favorite songs that you recorded in the past that still affect you deeply to this day?

BS: The songs that I wrote that I like the most are “Life’s a Lesson,” “So Long,” “Old Hoagy,” “There They Go,” “Don’t Cry For No Hipster,” and “In the Beginning”.

MR: At this point in your career, what has your musical mission evolved into?

BS: Living the life I sing about in my songs. It’s all well and good to have good ideas and gather up knowledge and technique but can you live the life you sing about in your songs. That’s the question I first heard in an old gospel song of the same name, and it still is news.

MR: These days, are there any musicians you prefer to create or perform with?

BS: The most important musician in my life at this point is my son, Leo. He is now in his thirties and has a life and a career of his own, but we have developed a kind of musical radar from playing together for so long and he brings out the best in me. Also I love his sense of humor and I find my best work comes when I’m laughing.

MR: What advice do you have for new artists?

BS: If you try to be anybody but yourself, you are doomed to be second best. Having said that, we all start out by trying to copy our heroes. Naturally, we will fail. And it is in the recovery from that perceived failure that you will begin to develop your own voice. So make your own mistakes. Embrace failure.

MR: When you released Blue Camus, were you even aware you had released thirty albums previously?

BS: Not really. I could have counted them up but I certainly wasn’t thinking about anything other than solving the musical problems in front of me.

IRON TOM’S “NOBODY’S CHILD” EXCLUSIVE

2015-06-02-1433213850-9469971-IRONTOMCompilationCover.jpg

The new single “Nobody’s Child” is taken from LA-based Irontom’s forthcoming self-titled release compiling their previous singles. Says Irontom drummer, Dyl Williams…

“‘Nobody’s Child’ was one of our first songs together, and it’s always been very different from our other material. Whereas most of our songs can get loud and aggressive, this song is more relaxed and spacious – and it’s taken us a little time to complete a recording that does it justice. It has followed us quietly for years, and we’re excited to finally share it. The creative process is very cool.”

Exclusive: A Sneak Peek At Cirque Du Soleil’s One-Night Only Special Event For Charity One Drop

CIRQUE DU SOLEIL
ONE NIGHT FOR ONE DROP

Cirque Du Soleil owes a lot to water: one of their sexiest and most successful shows is the Las Vegas extravaganza O which makes excellent use of H20. Now they’re going to return the favor by sharing water with the world. The troupe’s founder Guy Laliberté founded One Drop, an organization dedicated to bringing access to safe water to everyone in the world, along with raising awareness for the dramatic difference water can make in people’s lives.

One Night For One Drop is the latest event to raise funds for One Drop. This one night only extravaganza is a unique show featuring artists from across Cirque Du Soleil’s many shows. It’s filmed and broadcast to cinemas around the world on June 10. Here’s an exclusive look at some of the acts being created and performed for this special event.

Think about how easy it is for you to go online, read about this show, buy a ticket with your credit card and then go see it in a modern, air-conditioned movie theater on June 10. Every step of the way, you’re literally surrounded by faucets and taps and fountains and bottles of water, water everywhere and you never give it a thought.

Forget movies and special events like One Night For One Drop. Some 750 million people in the world — one out of every nine people on the planet — can’t even imagine having safe water on tap at their beck and call. Some 2.5 billion people lack improved sanitation that’s linked to safe water. So enjoy this sneak peek at Cirque Du Soleil’s spectacle and think about helping people who would be just as amazed to see the running water in your home.

EXCLUSIVE: Cast Of The Entourage Movie Talk Recreating The Greatness

Whether you’re a curious newcomer or diehard fan, chances are the upcoming Entourage movie has managed to fly across your radar in some shape or fashion. Over the course of eight seasons, HBO delivered us a worthy depiction of brotherhood, camaraderie and perseverance. It just so happened to be set underneath the vice-laden lights of Hollywood, replete with enough sex, drugs and rock ‘n roll to feel the void. The characters were so true-to-life, it was only right that the boys returned to the silver screen to keep the story going.

Hip-Hop Wired was extremely fortuitous to get an extended invitation from Warner Bros. to shadow the Entourage movie’s set for a day. We indulged in the magic of the crew’s filmmaking process, who handily transformed a lavish pad in Palos Verdes into a Malibu beach house. Additionally, were also able to interview the time-tested cast of Kevin Connolly, Adrian Grenier, Kevin Dillon and Jerry Ferrara.

You may best know them as E, Vince, Drama and Turtle, respectively. Allow them to tell you why you should be present in theaters come June 3rd when the Entourage movie is officially unveiled.

Since the show left off, where have you guys been with your individual characters?

Adrian Grenier: Remarkably…it was like riding a bike. When we first started shooting down in Miami, I think we were all a little nervous, especially with the time away. But as soon as they yelled “Action!” we were right back in there. You really don’t need to relearn how to have a family reunion.

Jerry Ferrara: [My weight loss] is still a thing [Laughs]. It did kind of start a couple of years ago around Season 7 or 8. I think Doug’s mad at me because we had to write new jokes. There were several reasons why I got into shape and in a weird way, it added to the evolution of the character. But by no means was it for the role.

Kevin Dillon: It’s good to be back. I just relished in this character so much. You know how it is being Drama. He never gets what he deserves–in his opinion. He’s just so kooky and he’s got so many flaws. I feel like it’s easy for everyone [to get back into the swing of things]. We know our characters and we’re not on the set trying to figure out who we are.

Kevin Connolly: It’s something that we have talked about over the years. There’s two trains of thought where you kind of want to put it behind you but these characters have so good to all of us, that you don’t want to put it behind you. I can live with people screaming ‘E!’ when I walk into a restaurant [Laughs]. Of course you want to move on do other things as an actor but as long as people will have us and allow us to play these characters, I’m sure everyone would agree we would love to continue.

EXCLUSIVE: Turk Subpoenas Universal Music Group In Lawsuit Against Cash Money

(AllHipHop News) Tab “Turk” Virgil has already claimed one victory in his attempt to earn back royalty and publishing payments from Bryan “Birdman” Williams and Ronald “Slim” Williams’ Cash Money Records. The New Orleans rapper won a default motion against his former label earlier this month.

[ALSO READ: Turk Wins Default Motion Against Cash Money Records]

Turk is now seeking information from Cash Money’s parent company Universal Music Group to help determine how much he should be rewarded from the suit.

According to a source with firsthand knowledge of the case, Turk’s legal team has issued subpoenas to UMG and Universal Music Publishing Group in order to get access to accounting on the artists’ master recordings and publishing connected to Cash Money.

In the original court documents, Turk requested at least $ 1.3 million, but the judge could award him a higher amount. It is suspected Cash Money owes Turk payments regarding over 100 recordings with the imprint. The parties are scheduled to return to court in July.

Between 1997 and 2001, Turk released several singles as a member of Cash Money’s Hot Boys including “We On Fire” and “I Need A Hot Girl.” It is estimated the group has sold over 2 million albums to date.

As a solo artist, Turk released his debut studio album Young & Thuggin’ via Cash Money. He also appeared on records by other CMR acts Juvenile, Lil Wayne, and Big Tymers.

AllHipHop.com contacted representatives of Universal Music Group and Universal Music Publishing Group. As of press time, UMG declined to comment and UMPG has not responded to the matter. Turk and his attorney Patrick Costello declined to comment on this story.

BookFilter Exclusive: Naomi Novik On Her Acclaimed New Fantasy Novel “Uprooted”

2015-05-20-1432080411-5705581-timthumb.jpg

UPROOTED
By Naomi Novik
$ 25 (hardcover); Del Rey

Naomi Novik is one of the most successful fantasy authors of the past decade. She splashed onto the scene in 2006 with three books published in three months on the venerable Del Rey imprint, making Novik an immediate critical and commercial sensation. The Temeraire series combines the Napoleonic Era with dragons in a manner both witty and insightful. (When your beast of burden is a talking, fire-breathing dragon, questions of self-determination and slavery become a lot more interesting.)

Even before the first book was published, it was optioned by director Peter Jackson (more on that in a minute). But other stories, other ideas have pushed their way in as Novik builds to the ninth and final volume of the Temeraire tales, due out in 2016. One idea in particular wouldn’t go away and the result is Uprooted, a stand-alone fantasy out now to considerable critical acclaim. Her peers in particular have praised it, with everyone from Ursula K. Le Guin to Lev Grossman to Tamora Pierce (the author Novik read in the school library as a child, rather than going out to play during recess) chiming in.

Novik sat down with BookFilter to discuss her new book, her childhood, how her parents met and separated and met again across the sea, a lost novel and much more. Head to BookFilter for the complete interview. Highlights are below.

Based on the Polish and Russian fairy tales her mother read to Novik as a child growing up in Staten Island, Uprooted begins in classic fashion with a corker of an opening line: “Our Dragon doesn’t eat the girls he takes, no matter what stories they tell outside our valley.” Novik has you immediately and never falters. The novel begins with a ritual: the once-a-decade ceremony when the local wizard (nicknamed the “Dragon”) chooses a young maid to take away to his tower, where she serves him in ways the locals can’t imagine but spend an awful lot of time trying.

Everyone simply knows the beautiful and winning Kasia will be chosen and yet it’s our narrator Agnieszka that the Dragon almost reluctantly takes. From the fate of Agnieszka to the fate of her valley to the fate of the kingdom and indeed the world, the scope of this story slowly but inexorably expands. So does the magic, whether the highly detailed, scientific magic of the Dragon or the more creative, “instinctive” magic that Agnieszka soon proves adept at.

The medieval world Novik creates is as rooted in reality as her Napoleonic one. But unlike most fantasy, what you remember best is not the world but the vivid and complex characters. In what is ultimately a rather remarkable novel, there are no genuine villains. Oh there is danger and evil aplenty (as symbolized by the malignant Wood that encroaches on Agnieszka’s valley); armies clash, people struggle for power and so on. But time and again Novik reveals characters driven not by a black heart but by sincere if sometimes misguided impulses. Indeed, nothing is scarier than someone doing great evil for what they consider a higher purpose. In shortUprooted is the best and boldest novel she’s written. So far.

NAOMI NOVIK ON HOW TO GET AN AGENT IN TWO EASY STEPS

Novik is one-half of a publishing industry powerhouse. She’s an acclaimed, best-selling author and a champion of online fan fiction (where Novik got her start) via the Organization For Transformative Works. Her husband Charles Ardai is an Edgar Award-winning author in his own right as well as the founder of the pulp fiction imprint Hard Case Crime. Here Novik tells how they met and her fortuitous path to getting an agent.

NAOMI NOVIK ON BREAKING INTO THE FEDERAL RESERVE

Novik grew up in the 1970s surrounded by numbers and science. Her parents were steeped in them while working on computers after emigrating to the US from Eastern Europe. Here Novik describes making like Matthew Broderick and playing early online games by remotely accessing the Federal Reserve computers.

NAOMI NOVIK ON NOT TALKING ABOUT THE MOVIE VERSION OF TEMERAIRE

The Temeraire series was optioned by Peter Jackson about a decade ago. Novik remains a huge fan of the director, but after years of enthusing about the potential for a movie or TV series or something, Novik suddenly clams up politely when the issue is broached yet again. Given the length of time that has passed, outsiders can only surmise that the option has lapsed or someone else is circling the project or something is about to be announced…or that a project that would be ridiculously expensive and difficult to mount may simply be on the backburner for years to come. You decide.

This much is clear: Novik is not a one-trick pony. Her Temeraire series was a clever idea: The Napoleonic Era! And dragons! Of course! But it is the execution that makes it an ongoing pleasure. (The final book will be out in 2016.) And with Uprooted just released to acclaim and numerous other stories bursting to get out (led by an idea that springs from The Secret Garden), we can safely say Novik won’t be one of those authors who builds one great world and then gets trapped in it. Temeraire is just the beginning. Head to BookFilter for the complete, in-depth interview.

Bar Owner Ronnie Lottz Defends 2-Way Mirror In Women’s Bathroom, Won’t Take It Down (EXCLUSIVE AUDIO)

The owner of an Illinois bar is defending his decision to have a two-way mirror in a women’s bathroom, saying the woman who took video of the mirror ruined his “fun house gag.”

In a story first reported by Jezebel, female comic Tamale Rocks posted a video showing a two-way mirror in the women’s bathroom at Berwyn bar and comedy club Cigars and Stripes. The owner, Ronnie Lottz, told the Huffington Post the mirror is staying.

In a recorded phone conversation, Lottz said the mirror was part of his “live art,” and that the comic who posted the original video simply wanted attention.

Rocks could not be reached for comment.

“I have to tell you this: The woman who recorded that obviously has had a little difficulty with her career, and everybody is looking for that niche right now. They just gotta find that viral video,” Lottz said.

Listen to the full audio conversation here:

Lottz says people go to his bar for a one-of-a-kind, funhouse experience. “I make a living on making people either very happy or take them out of their reality for a couple of hours of their life. My bar is promoted as haunted. I was in the professional wrestling business. I have a 10 foot mummy that was stolen.”

The bar owner spoke to HuffPost from a beer garden at his establishment, where he said visitors could see Bigfoot’s grave.

Rocks’ video shows the mirror directly opposite of a women’s toilet. All it takes is the turn of the knob to go to an adjacent room, which appeared to be a closet where anyone could watch others going into the restroom.

“I noticed a full-length mirror opposite of the toilet,” Rocks wrote on the YouTube page. “Curious, I explored and discovered that it was two-way mirror, the door behind it cut away to allow an unobstructed view of the toilet…and anyone who may be using it.”

Lottz said he simply expects women to check behind the door before going about their business.

“[Most of the women] in there will turn the doorknob and go ‘there’s nobody in there, I gotta pee’ and there you go. Enough said.”

The two-way mirror is only in the women’s restroom, Lottz confirmed. The owner said he and his staff would never allow men in there — not because of the mirror — but because they “piss on the seats” and upset female customers.

Lottz said members of the Berwyn Police Department checked out his bathroom earlier in the day and they saw nothing wrong with it. A call to the department was not immediately returned.

The owner said the mirror originally had a monster that would “scare” female customers.

“What we do is we put a monster behind it, and we used to have a switch, and we hit the switch, and it lights up and the monster appears, and they come running out and it’s big fun,” he said.

Video of the incident shows the closet is empty.

“People have been playing with that mirror for 15 years now, I’m not taking it down,” he said. “Period.”

Exclusive! 7 Selfies from Kim Kardashian West’s New Book

kim-kardashian-selfish-selfie-simple

By some accounts the first selfie was taken by one Robert Cornelius, an American innovator in photography, when he unwittingly snapped a picture of himself in 1839. Fast-forward almost two centuries and social media has transformed the selfie into an all-out pop-culture phenomenon, with none other than Kim Kardashian West leading the charge; the budding tech entrepreneur even spoofed her penchant for personal pics in a Super Bowl ad. Now Mrs. West is elevating the selfie right into a Rizzoli coffee table book: In the aptly titled Kim Kardashian West: Selfish, West offers new insights into Growing Up Kardashian, from befriending Paris Hilton to finding true love with Kanye. Here, the 34-year-old shares seven selfies from the new book, along with her memories of the moments.
