How to Get Michael Strahan’s Sharp Hairstyle and Goatee

Michael Strahan’s sharp hairstyle is equal parts stylish and functional. He needs something that always looks good because the man is always on. He films ABC’s Good Morning America and GMA3: Strahan, Sara, & Keke nearly daily, between dozens of other emcee gigs. He’s got to be camera-ready at the drop of a dime—clean and consistent with his look. For our October cover, he brought his classic line up hairstyle and goatee to set, freshly trimmed and cut. While it’s a straightforward look, it’s still worth noting how you can achieve the styles for yourself—in particular, the sharply carved-out goatee that can easily go awry.

For tips on Strahan’s sharp hairstyle and facial hair, we spoke with barber Andre Arceo of Blind Barber in New York City. Here is Arceo’s advice on how to have Strahan’s look for yourself.

Who Can Achieve Michael Strahan’s Sharp Hairstyle (and Who Can’t)

Strahan’s faded hairstyle isn’t for everyone. Arceo says guys with fine, light hair should avoid it. And, if you’re thinning or receding at the hairline, this style will not shy away from highlighting that. It shows everything—and if you’re fine with that, you’re good to go. He adds that the fade can easily blend into any scalp exposure: “The fade will be modified to shape and build the profile of the hair on the sides, in order to accentuate the hair on top,” he says.

Michael Strahan Shares His Top 5 Secrets for Success

Variations on the Cut

Because this is a common line up buzz cut, we’d encourage you to try some variations on it. This is easily achieved by altering the fade, says Arceo. Drake often wears a similar cut with a low fade, for example. “The modification of the low fade has the effect of frowning out and away from the hairline,” he says. “It creates more definition at the hairline and keeps the fade tighter and closer to the ears and nape.”

Length and Maintenance

Because this one is so close to the dome, you’ll want to freshen it up every week, three weeks at the very most, says Arceo. He posits that Strahan’s cut is roughly a 3.5 blade, shaved against the grain of his hair, then faded down into a 2 blade (with the grain this time). Arceo notes that this combination creates the smooth effect you see in Strahan’s hair, but also accentuates the natural waves.

No Styling Required…

There is no product needed here, says Arceo. He advises carrying a comb or wave brush everywhere, though, in case some flyaways stand out of order.

Strahan wears T-shirt by John Varvatos and watch by Robert Dubuis.
Michael Schwartz

How to Get the Goatee

Goatees are polarizing—but some guys, like Strahan or Brad Pitt, pull them off with aplomb. If you want to see how it looks on you, here are Arceo’s tips.

“First, take the goatee hair down to your desired length,” he says. “Usually I recommend a 1.5 blade to bring out the definition of the lines. Next, take care of the mustache and anything inside the goatee.” He says to always work on the inside of the goatee first before shaving anything around the perimeter. This allows you to maintain the rest of your facial hair (while bringing it to a uniform length), if you change your mind.

If you don’t naturally have the upper chin bare (as seen in the center of Strahan’s goatee), you can bring this down. It’s all personal preference. Arceo recommends trying it for yourself, to really showcase the geometry of the goatee. It can be harder to maintain, however, and may require a trimmer with a good spot-checking attachment (like the Philips Norelco Multigroom All-In-One Series 3000) to shear away hair without risk of shaving the goatee itself.

How to Get Russell Wilson’s Curly Hairstyle

“Lastly, bring the lines inward from the mustache and goatee to achieve the desired thickness on the sides,” he says. By waiting until the end with this step, you’re able to bring in the goatee’s thickness as desired. You can shave the bare skin every day or two, then trim the goatee back down every week.

A Note on the Mustache

Arceo also recommends keeping the mustache slightly shorter than the rest of the goatee. Start with a 1 up there and the rest on 1.5, or keep it at a 1.5 while you leave the rest on 2. The reasoning here: “Mustache hair is often the densest part of facial hair,” Arceo says. “Taking it down shorter will make it look even to the rest of your facial hair.”

Over the course of his career, Cammarata’s pivoted from video games to web hosting to wellness products, his most current enterprise. But the goal has always been the same: Improve people’s lives.

As CEO and president of Neptune Wellness Solutions, Cammarata is honing in on the extraction, purification, and formulation of cannabis products.

Estate Of Michael Jackson Earn Win Over HBO In ‘Leaving Neverland’ Battle

Array

Source: Chris Connor / WENN / WENN

The long back and forth between the estate of Michael Jackson and HBO over the explosive Leaving Neverland documentary has come to somewhat of an end. A judge has sided with the estate and will allow them to take the network to arbitration.

Variety
reports:

Judge George Wu issued a tentative ruling on Thursday in which he denied HBO’s motion to dismiss the estate’s case. Wu is expected to make the ruling final by the end of September.

The four-hour documentary features allegations of two men, James Safechuck and Wade Robson, who say they were sexually abused by Jackson over the course of several years when they were young children. The Jackson estate argues that by running the documentary, HBO violated a non-disparagement agreement from a 1992 concert film from Jackson’s “Dangerous” tour.

The estate blasted HBO for not including their rebuttal to the allegations in the film, and went to court seeking to compel a public arbitration of the contract dispute. HBO has said that the 26-year-old contract no longer applies.

HBO’s attorneys, led by Theodore Boutrous, had sought to throw out the case under California’s anti-SLAPP statute, which discourages frivolous litigation intended to chill speech on issues of public interest.

The outlet updated its report later to acknowledge that the judge’s ruling is indeed final but an appeal from HBO is expected so the fight will continue in some form.

Midway through the 21st century, Lincoln Six Echo (Ewan McGregor) lives in a confined indoor community after ongoing abuse of the Earth has rendered most of the planet uninhabitable. One of the only places in the outside world still capable of sustaining life is an idyllic island where citizens are chosen to live through a lottery. "Unacknowledged" focuses on the historic files of the Disclosure Project and how UFO secrecy has been ruthlessly enforced – and why. The best evidence for Extraterrestrial contact, dating back decades, is presented with direct top-secret witness testimony, documents and UFO footage, 80% of which has never been revealed anywhere else. The behind-the-scenes research and high level meetings convened by Dr. Steven Greer will expose the degree of illegal, covert operations at the core of UFO secrecy. From briefings with the CIA Director, top Pentagon Generals and Admirals, to the briefing of President Obama via senior advisor John Podesta, chairman of the Hillary Clinton Campaign – we take the viewer behind the veil of secrecy and into the corridors of real power where the UFO secrets reside. The viewer will learn that a silent coup d’état has occurred dating back to the 1950s and that the Congress, the President and other world leaders have been sidelined by criminal elements within the Military-Industrial-Financial complex.

A source tells Rolling Stone that Sony ATV will “either become 100 percent owner or divest.” Sony, worth an estimated $ 2 billion and owning the rights to some 750,000 songs, has maintained a 50-50 venture between Jackson since 1995.

Young Midshipman Ichiro Sato joined the Terran Navy to escape a tyrannical father and find freedom among the stars. He had no idea when he boarded the survey starship Aurora for his first assignment that he and his crew would make humanity’s first contact with a sentient alien species. In an uncharted star system where Aurora’s crew discovers two planets inhabited by a non-human civilization, Aurora is disabled by gigantic alien starships before she can escape. Boarded by nightmarish blue-skinned warriors with claws and fangs, the aliens learn all there is to know about the ship, including all its stored information about humanity, before the crew is slaughtered in a series of ritual combats. Ichiro, the sole survivor, is returned to Earth as a messenger to warn of the aliens’ coming invasion of human space. For that is the Way of the Kreelan Empire, an ancient and dying race that has waged war across the galaxy for a hundred thousand years, slaughtering every sentient species it has encountered in a desperate search for the One, a savior foretold in an ages-old prophecy who can rescue them from looming extinction. For the Kreelans, who will die out in a handful of generations, the conflict with humanity will be The Last War. With Earth leading a fragile coalition of military forces to mount a defense against what many believe is nothing more than a hoax, Ichiro again finds himself at the sharp end of the spear aboard a Terran destroyer. Together with journalist Stephanie Guillaume, Legionnaire Roland Mills, and the irrepressible General James Sparks, Ichiro and the other men and women of the coalition put their lives on the line against an enemy none of them could ever have imagined. Black Twitter Auctions Off Michael B. Jordan For Kendall Jenner Love & #AllLivesMatter Post

The Fantastic Four debacle aside, Michael B. Jordan is pretty much eyeing the table reserved for Hollywood’s elite. Unfortunately that statement may soon come in the past tense after a very informative interview with GQ has been dissected down to some commentary that has seriously pissed off Black folks.

When asked about his rumored romance with a one Kendall Jenner, the 28-year-old actor responded with “It’s the world we live in. They see white and black. I don’t. Kendall’s a friend of mine, you know. I don’t know her, like, that well, but I know her enough. People’s perspective on that is what it is. I don’t f*cking know. I don’t live my life to make other people happy. It’s so weird, though, right? A lot of black fans were feeling like ‘Oh, my god, he should have been with a black woman’ and that whole thing.”

If that wasn’t enough to stir the pot, the Creed star allegedly followed his viral interview with the ultimate no-no: posting #AllLivesMatter on Snapchat.

Lets just say his mentions now look like Apollo’s face after Ivan Drago stared at for an entire round. Check out the damage for yourself in the gallery. That boy went out like Wallace.

Model Takes Ill at Michael Kors, Delays Show

KORS DELAY: The Michael Kors show was delayed about 25 minutes because one of the models, named Ondria Hardin of DNA Models, became ill, and paramedics from New York-Presbyterian were called and took her away in a stretcher. She was treated outside the Spring Studios venue at 50 Varick Street for about 15 minutes with an oxygen mask, said one onlooker. A spokeswoman for Michael Kors said following the show, “She was unwell and cognizant. She got treatment immediately, and that’s why we didn’t start the show. The paramedics came. There was no point in taking a chance. She was with her agent. It’s a lot for these girls to endure.”
One of the dressers backstage said the scene was alarming when Ondria was taken away on a stretcher. Ondria was all dressed and ready to go, wearing a crimson silk georgette scarf dress.

Michael Moore’s ‘Where To Invade Next’ Deserves The Nonpartisan Audience It Won’t Find

Michael Moore is the 21st century’s most famous documentarian, but not for the same reasons that Ken Burns and Werner Herzog and Errol Morris defined the genre in the previous century. Moore is hyper-aware of the platform he’s carved out for himself. It’s the same platform that got him booed at the Oscars and landed him on Time’s 2005 list of the globe’s most influential people. He galvanizes his core audience — liberals who criticize gun laws and long for universal healthcare — and alienates the non-choir folk who might actually have something to glean from his films.

That was blindingly transparent at Thursday’s opening-night Toronto Film Festival screening of Moore’s new documentary, “Where to Invade Next.” A packed house at the expansive Princess of Wales Theatre not only laughed at the movie’s many witty moments, but gleeful cheers and applause broke out at regular intervals as the film’s interview subjects pointed out the copious examples that prove America, however great, is culturally, politically and sociologically inferior t0 other countries. Sitting among the crowd, and agreeing with the bulk of their endorsements, I wondered whether what should be seen as a relatively nonpartisan doc would register anywhere outside of the admitted echo chamber that exists within the mainstream entertainment media. Will anyone who doesn’t already question America’s military industrial complex see this film? Aren’t proponents of women’s rights already aligned with the points Moore raises? Doesn’t anyone with half a brain think the country’s lack of paid-vacation laws is chintzy?

The answers to these questions, in all likelihood, are resounding affirmatives. That’s not to say that “Where to Invade Next” isn’t good. Its execution, in fact, is quite effective. It’s built on the guise of Moore assuming the Pentagon’s duties by “invading” — aka visiting — other countries to poach ideas that would make America a fairer, more hospitable place. Along the way, he learns that Italy provides citizens with eight weeks (!!!) of paid vacation. In France, school-cafeteria lunches are five-star affairs. Slovenia offers free college education. Portugal has decriminalized all drug use and seen its usage rates plummet. Women’s health clinics in Tunisia are government-funded.

Wouldn’t it be great if America emulated such policies? “Obviously,” the TIFF viewers shouted by way of periodic applause in response to the film’s talking heads, who blanch at the notion that the United States doesn’t offer the same advantages. The fact that “Where to Invade Next” is built with practical alternatives to America’s systemic flaws makes it a stirring work of political theater, and with only a gentle presence from Moore throughout, progressive audiences will continue to howl, just as they did at Thursday’s screening. But watching the movie with such a devout congregation was a living reminder that a Moore documentary serves constituents rather than the overall populace. With peachier projects like “Bowling for Columbine” and “Fahrenheit 9/11,” that was inevitable. With “Where to Invade Next,” which ends on a hopeful note and should be seen as Moore’s least parochial outing yet (there’s only one George W. Bush crack!), it’s just a shame. This isn’t a quote-unquote liberal movie — it’s a look at the decency that exists across the globe but is often undervalued on our home turf.

Exclusive: Michael Ealy & Morris Chestnut Talk Good Vs. Evil In The Perfect Guy

Just in time for cuffing season and autumn date nights, Sony is unleashing the steamy thriller, The Perfect Guy upon audiences. The film splices just the right amount of chocolate box star power as Sanaa Latham stars as Leah, a successful professional who gets involved with a seemingly perfect guy Carter (Michael Ealy) after her longtime relationship with Dave (Morris Chestnut) hits a stagnant point. Unbeknownst to her upon their first date, Carter possesses a lethal alter-ego and when Dave comes back into the picture, an even more serious conflict is spawned.

The film combines the talents of director David M. Rosenthal and writers Alan B. McElroy and Tyger Williams alongside Ealy and Lathan in the executive producer chair. Hip-Hop Wired caught up with both of the leading men of the film and we broke apart their unique dynamic in The Perfect Guy.

Morris, if you had a dollar for every time a fan claimed you were “the perfect guy” how much money would you be holding?

Morris Chestnut: [Laughs] I thought you were going to ask me, if I had a dollar for every time some yelled out ‘Rickyyy’ [from Boyz n the Hood] I’d be a billionaire; I’d be richer than Donald Trump. Luckily I have people and fans who root for me but they don’t really tell me I’m the perfect guy.

You are pretty much the ideal good guy in every movie you play. How close were you to shaking things up this time around?

Morris Chestnut: The shake-up was when I came into the restaurant and had a situation with Mike’s character. That was the closest…and it was fun! Mike’s a really good dude; he’s a great actor and we had a great time shooting it.

Mike, you actually got to play the bad guy. Did you like doing this role?

Michael Ealy: I loved it. I loved everything from start to finish. In terms of coming on board to the project to producing the project and being part of the creative process and developing the script to where it needed to be. And shooting this movie was amazing.

The movie got shot in like a month?

Morris Chestnut: We shot it pretty quickly and it was pretty contained.

Michael Ealy: It was about two months for me.

Was this your first time executive producing, Mike?

Michael Ealy: Yes, the first and definitely won’t be the last. I could definitely see myself behind-the-scenes and transitioning as time goes by.

But the audience doesn’t want to see you behind-the-scenes, though.

Michael Ealy: Yeah…that’s alright [Laughs]. It depends on the content you give them and I think you got to share the love. Everybody has to get the shine in all aspects.

What was it like working with a first-time director?

Michael Ealy: David isn’t a first-time director. He’s a first-time studio director. He’s done independent films and I’ve seen his work and David’s sensibilities were exactly what we needed in this movie. Because he’s not in the studio system, he has more indie traits and once you’ve seen the film, you’ll understand that it’s not as polished as say a Think Like a Man. It’s not as conventional and that’s what we’re going for. It’s a genre piece and people know the genre but we shot it from a grimy sensibility opposed to relying on other troupes from other movies.

With a stalker tale like this, we’ve started to see it more prevalent in the news. Is there some sort of domestic violence message in this film?

Morris Chestnut: I definitely think so. I’d say the overall message is really trying to get to know the person [that you date]. Take your time and don’t rush into anything too quickly and really learn to understand them.

Michael Ealy: I’d say this story is bigger than domestic violence. I think domestic violence almost simplifies the script because it’s not a case of domestic or verbal abuse–that’s What’s Love Got to Do with It. This is a thriller–like a romantic, psychological thriller if you will–and it’s more about Carter’s goal. Carter’s goal isn’t to hurt Leah. Carter’s goal is to make Leah do what he wants, which is to love him. As long as she’s loves him, then she’s going to be O.K. and that’s the sociopath in him talking. It’s about control and power.

Is Carter setting light-skinned brothers back with this film?

Michael Ealy: You know…[Laughs]…no! People have made this comment and that’s not really the goal. And I feel like there will be a couple of light-skinned brothers that will be proud of this [Laughs]. But I don’t think being a sociopath has anything to do with the tone of anyone’s skin so that won’t apply here and people will see that in the movie.

Speaking of Ricky, did you get a chance to check out Straight Outta Compton yet, Morris?

Morris Chestnut: I haven’t! I’ve been working on this TV show, Rosewood and it’s been really hard for me to take out 2 1/2 hours for the movie. But I’m definitely going to see it real soon.

How do you feel about being on TV once again?

Morris Chestnut: It’s a blessing, to having the opportunity and I’m looking forward to it doing well. The good thing about a movie is you get a lot of time to sit in your trailer to get your character right. TV shows move so fast which could be a good and a bad thing. Some time you don’t get to get into a scene as much but it’s also good not waiting like eight hours just to shoot the first shot.

Both of you guys are part of a pretty tight-knit group of Black Hollywood. When you get a script and see that one or the other–like Sanaa Latham is on board, does it make an automatic go for you?

Morris Chestnut: For me, that was definitely one of things seeing both Sanaa and Michael were involved. I said, ‘Wow, these are two high-caliber actors and I want to be a part of it and add to the mix and see if we can make something special.’ And our characters never really worked together in the movies that we’ve done together so this was a chance for that happen.

Michael Ealy: We had a good crew. Working with Sanaa was something I wanted to do for a long time and she didn’t disappoint because she’s just that good. And funny…so funny.

Trailers look like they give a lot of the movie away but they really don’t. What can people expect from The Perfect Guy?

Morris Chestnut: They give some good moments away but there’s still the journey. A lot of times what I find is when it’s a good movie that’s well-executed, you kind of forget the trailer and getting engrossed in the movie step-by step, so hopefully this happens with this one.

Michael Ealy: There is still plenty of good moments that haven’t been given away and I can’t wait for people to see those moments, seeing that the studio has been playing nice.

The Perfect Guy hits theaters tomorrow, September 11. Pre-purchase your tickets on Fandago.

Michael Rowe on Early Winter: “I want to be honest in what I film”

2015-09-05-1441436560-1993541-20772Early_Winter_2.jpg

This year’s Venice Film Festival (La Biennale di Venezia) shines the spotlight on romance. But it’s not about your typical, run of the mill love stories, more like passion with a twist. Whether it is a group’s love of mountain climbing, as in Everest, or the devotion child soldiers bestow on their commandant in Beasts of No Nation, or even a futuristic view of attraction as a virus in Equals, love always seems to come at a price here on the Lido.

No film explores that more deeply, and darkly, than Michael Rowe’s Early Winter, screening in the Venice Days program. Rowe’s lead characters are two functioning people, complete with their own flaws and very human set of mistakes, yet when David (Paul Doucet) and Maya (Suzanne Clément) come together, they bring out the worst in each other, and themselves. Or perhaps that’s just how all couples are, once the fairy tale of romance wears off and day to day life sets in…

Discovering the filmmaker behind the work is what I love most about what I do. In person, Rowe is a kind, honest and thoughtful man. In fact, I expected someone different, darker perhaps, more angry. But that’s the thing about human beings, we’re not just one thing, one personality throughout; we are a blend of many moods, many thoughts and conflicting ideas. It is what makes life, and cinema, so interesting.

I’ll preface this by saying that I watched it when I was five but your film reminds me of Scenes from a Marriage, by Ingmar Bergman… That film has always stayed with me, my parents made me watch it.

Michael Rowe: I hadn’t thought of Bergman, I love Bergman. That’s a wonderful film, terrifying.

Your film is terrifying too. Two people who need each other but are so damaging to one another. Who have been your filmmaking influences?

Rowe: Influences in general are Bergman, of course, and Cassavetes, Roy Andersson, Catherine Breillat, there are others but those are my main ones. And in literature Raymond Carver is a big influence.

What is your background?

Rowe: I’m from a small town two hours from Melbourne, in Southern Australia. In filmmaking terms I consider myself Mexican, I don’t consider myself Australian. I’ve lived in Mexico for twenty-two years. Filmmakers like Carlos Reygadas, Amat Escalante, who is a good friend, Fernando Eimbcke, I think we influence each other in our work. And Michel Franco.

How did you direct in French?

Rowe: I do have some notions, I can understand the language, I studied four years of French, years ago. I wrote the dialogue in English and then sat down with the actors and with their help, translated it into French.

Why did you make your female character, Maya so unlikable, she’s quite a horrible person. Why not make him that way?

2015-09-05-1441436620-8773000-20760Michael_Rowe__Early_Winter.jpg Rowe: Because that’s the way she was. I don’t think about politics when I’m writing, it comes from somewhere else. And I think that if you have two people in a film, it’s about those two people it’s not about all women all men. I think we undergo a tyranny in the world of culture, this pseudo sociological analysis and criticism that we’re subjected to. Everything has to be able to be analyzed and be politically correct from a Marxists, feminist, socialist POV. No, I mean, people are bad — men and women — and people are good — men and women — and most of us are good and bad, in different contexts.

It is also about the situation. She’s trapped in a way…

Rowe: Yeah, she has a horrible life, she’s with this guy who is not the love of her life, and she’s got these kids and she lives a long way from home. She does her best, and she doesn’t have a particularly easy personality — it’s real life.

Was she difficult to write?

Rowe: All writing is difficult for me. It’s the part I hate. Because you are on your own, you’re completely in the dark, you’re six months away from knowing if it works or not. You can’t ask advice of anyone because no one knows. It’s a difficult and lonely process. I don’t like it but it’s the only process that’s important. The most creative process by a hundred percent, compared to directing which is also nice, it’s much nicer you have people around you. It’s much more social, I love it. Writing I suffer through it a lot but want to tell my version of truth. I want to be honest in what I film and I can’t be honest if I’m filming something that I didn’t write. It’s very important to me to really be the creator. I think the heavy creative work is in the writing.

How did you find your two lead actors?

Rowe: I cast Paul [Doucet] and he brought tears to my eyes in the casting, in a scene with no dialogue. He’s awesome. I knew he was in. There was another actress attached to the film and she couldn’t confirm dates. First of all we had to push the whole shoot by ten months because she was having a baby, and said a month after the birth she would be ready to shoot. We waited and after those ten months when she couldn’t confirm dates again I thought, we’re not going to use her. I sat down with Paul, we create together, when I film it’s just the actors and me, and I said, “who do we have in Canada that could pull off this role?” And Paul said Suzanne Clément and I said, “totally!” as soon as he said it, I thought it would be amazing. I think that sometimes things happen the way they’re meant to happen. We had to wait ten months in order to get Suzanne, that’s fine. That’s what we had to do. I would have waited two years. She’s the best possible actress for the role.

How do you feel about cinema as a means to help us understand the world?

Rowe: I believe it should. I like to try to do that in my films. How to understand ourselves, how to understand the world, I think it has that potential and I think that’s always what I’m aiming for.

Although you say you’re not into being politically correct, what are some themes or subjects you won’t touch in your films?

Rowe: I don’t like violence and I won’t do that kind of a film.

So you won’t be making the next Transformers?

Rowe: No, I don’t know…

You would make a very different Transformers, it would be a bit Kafka-esque.

Rowe: It would be so interesting! If they would give me Transformers I would do something really cool. But yeah, I don’t like violence. Sometimes I’d like to do comedy just because I would be so much nicer to myself during the six months of writing. It would have to be a very serious comedy. What I’m interested in is finding out how we can live our lives in the best way possible. Trying to get light moments in there, but I don’t think I can do that in a comedy. And I don’t know if my natural temper is that way.

The world isn’t much of a comedy these days…

Rowe: That’s the thing, it’s a little heavy and it’s not gonna get much better in the next twenty years… It’s not a moment for that. Comedies distract you and make life a bit more bearable but I don’t like looking away from problems. Comedies don’t teach. You laugh and then you go home and the problems are still there.

Is there a film you remember watching as a child?

Rowe: I remember seeing E.T. in a cinema when I was about 11 or 12 and I remember thinking that was the best imaginable possible film ever.

Three words that describe you?

Rowe: What a difficult question! Gentle, I wanna say, and if I reduce it to a single word it will lose — someone-who-feels-other-people’s-pain-very-intensely — “empathetic” is the actual word but it’s not the same thing… And loving.

Michael Jordan Wins $8.9M Judgement Against Grocery Store Chain

Don’t mess with Michael Jordan’s brand or it will cost you. The Hall of Fame basketball won an $ 8.9M judgement against a grocery story chain that used his name without his permission back in 2009.

Reports TMZ:

The now-defunct chain Dominick’s (owned by Safeway) was ordered to pay up BIG TIME after MJ argued that it ran an ad in Sports Illustrated advertising steaks with his iconic jersey number and an image that was VERY similar to his Jumpman logo.

An attorney for Dominick’s said the chain shouldn’t have to pony up more than $ 126k … even though MJ had testified that he doesn’t do any media deals worth less than $ 10 million.

In the end, the Chicago jury sided with #23 … awarding him $ 8.9 million.

No worries if you think Air Jordan is being greedy. He plans to donate the money to charity.

“It was about honesty and integrity,” said Jordan via a statement. “I hope this case sends a clear message, both here in the United States and around the world, that I will continue to be vigilant about protecting my name and identity.”

Michael Sam Quits Football, Promptly Slandered

Michael Sam, the first openly gay player to be drafted by the NFL, has quit football. The former 7th round pick who last played in the Canadian Football League is citing mental issues for his retirement.

“The last 12 months have been very difficult for me, to the point where I became concerned with my mental health. Because of this I amgoing to step away from the game at this time. I thank the Alouettes for this opportunity and hope to be back on the field soon,” tweeted Sam.

Of course, Twitter wasted no time dragging Sam for calling it quits. Some of the slander is rooted in homophobia—y’all really need to let that hurt go. A lot of it is pure comedic pile on and there are also those defending him.

Check it out below and on the following pages.

First Openly Gay NFL Player Michael Sam To ‘Step Away’ From Football

By Eric M. Johnson

Aug 14 (Reuters) – Michael Sam, who last year became the first openly gay player drafted by a National Football League team, said on Friday he was stepping away from football, citing concerns over his mental health.

The Canadian Football League’s Montreal Alouettes, with whom he signed a contract in May, said on its team website that Sam had left the team for personal reasons and as a result had been placed on the team’s suspended list.

“The last 12 months have been very difficult for me, to the point where I became concerned with my mental health,” Sam wrote on Twitter. “Because of this I am going to step away from the game at this time.”

“Thank you all for your understanding and support,” he added.

Sam also thanked the Alouettes, and said he hoped to be back on the field soon. The defensive lineman was suspended by the Alouettes in June after he left the team’s training camp for unexplained personal reasons.

The National Football League’s St. Louis Rams selected Sam in the seventh round of the 2014 draft but waived him in the final round of cuts. He was picked up by the Dallas Cowboys but they released him from their practice squad in October.

Sam was the Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Year as a senior at the University of Missouri before graduating in December 2013.

The following February, before the NFL Draft, he announced he was gay.

ESPN reported that Sam agreed to a two-year deal with the Alouettes this summer. It also reported that he sat out the team’s first five games and that he failed to record a tackle during his team debut on August 7.

Sam’s supporters have said that his sexuality is irrelevant to his performance and have dismissed suggestions that an openly gay player would be a distraction for a professional football team. (Reporting by Eric M. Johnson in Seattle; Editing by Will Dunham and Ken Wills)
