Prada Launches Talk Series on Instagram

SOCIAL THOUGHT: Staying true to its bond with culture and mission to make it attractive and engaging for people, Prada will launch a series of digital talks on Instagram.
Dubbed “Prada Possible Conversations,” the project intends to connect international thinkers and personalities bowing from different industries with the social media audience through live dialogues broadcast on the label’s official account. The digital iteration will therefore represent an evolution of the company’s schedule of international cultural events during the coronavirus emergency.
Conversations will center on different themes, ranging from fashion, art, architecture and cinema to philosophy, psychology and literature, with the goal to invite users to explore how culture has been impacted by shifting times and how might evolve in the future.
The first “Prada Possible Conversation” is scheduled for April 14 at 6 p.m. CET. Author, curator and artistic director of Jacquard x Google Arts & Culture Residency Pamela Golbin and fashion journalist and critic Alexander Fury will talk about “Fashion in times of crises,” while viewers will be able to join them to pose questions and share opinions on the topic.
Each conversation on Instagram will additionally result in a financial donation Prada will make to UNESCO to support its work during the

London’s Design Museum to Stage Prada Retrospective

PRADA CALLING: In listing its program of upcoming shows, London’s Design Museum revealed a grand retrospective on Prada will be unveiled in September.
Claiming that the exhibition “will offer unprecedented insight into Prada’s creative approach, inspirations and landmark collaborations,” the museum aims to explore the brand’s evolution as global enterprise.
Dubbed “Prada. Front and Back,” the show will be divided in different sections to reflect such a theme and convey “both the surface of fashion and the creative and industrial infrastructure on which it depends,” according to the presentation published on the location’s web site.
“Miuccia Prada’s story is unique…With her husband, Patrizio Bertelli, she has changed the way that people dress, redefined how we understand luxury, explored new materials and technologies and invested passionately in art, design and architecture. She has made Prada the essence of modernity,” concludes the statement.
This won’t be the only time the Design Museum will prove its bias for the fashion industry.
Prior to the Prada exhibit, the “Sneakers Unboxed: Studio to Street” show will also make its debut. Opening in May, it will focus on sneakers and their design process, showcasing limited editions, cult classics and brand collaborations that have shaped the sneaker scene, defined its popularity, encouraged

Prada to Stage Resort 2021 Runway Show in Japan

MIUCCIA HEADS TO JAPAN: Prada is heading to Japan to unveil its resort 2021 collection.
The runway show will take place on May 21, but the location of the event is still undisclosed. This will be the first show staged by Prada in Japan.
In June the brand hosted its men’s spring 2020 runway show in Shanghai.
Prada started presenting its resort collections with a show in 2017, when the luxury brand staged a runway event at the Fondazione Prada Osservatorio inside Milan’s Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II arcade. In 2018 and 2019, Prada headed to New York to show its resort 2019 and 2020 collections with shows at its headquarters in Midtown Manhattan.
The Prada resort 2021 show will follow the Chanel one to be hosted in Capri on May 7 and will happen just a few days before Max Mara’s cruise runway event in St. Petersburg on May 25.
While the full schedule of resort shows is still to be defined, the pre-fall calendar already counts a Dior Men show in Miami on Dec. 3 and a Giorgio Armani women’s show on Nov. 14 at the Armani Theater in Milan. On that occasion, the designer will also unveil the first high jewelry collection under

First Lady Melania Trump Delivers Anti-Vaping Remarks Wearing Prada

In helping to kick off the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Red Ribbon Rally, First Lady Melania Trump called for the end of marketing e-cigarettes and vaping to minors.
During her remarks this morning in Washington, D.C., FLOTUS said, “We need to continue encouraging teenagers and young adults that have fallen into drug addiction to be brave enough to admit it, to talk about it and to get help. This also includes addiction associated with e-cigarettes and vaping. It is important to me that we all work to educate children and families about the dangers associated with this habit. Marketing this addictive product to children must stop,” according to a transcript of her remarks.
Wearing a black sleeveless Prada dress, Trump was the first first lady to visit DEA’s headquarters. Monday’s message may have been about anti-drugs, but her attire hinted at sustainability. FLOTUS wore the same all-business sheath for a Sept. 23 visit to the New York Stock Exchange to ring the opening bell with students from the United Nations International School. A pool report noted that the first lady did not wear a red ribbon today and that an East Wing staffer said FLOTUS had not received one in advance of the

Fondazione Prada to Host Performance Art Project

Fondazione Prada will hold its first performance art project this fall.

Called “Atlas of Gesture,” the performance will be held at the art institution’s Milanese headquarters from Sept. 18 to Oct. 3.

Conceived by dancer and choreographer Virgilio Sieni, who is also the director of Venice Biennale’s dance section, the project will involve both professional and amateur dancers who will perform on the two levels of the site’s Podium area. The dancers will interact with the statues of the “Serial Classic” exhibition, which currently occupies the space, in order to create a contrast between the dynamic dancing bodies and the static nature of the sculptures.

“Atlas of Gesture” will include five different parts, called Origin, Ritual, Announcement, Gravity and Nudity.

The Perpetual Bloom of the Flower Brooch, from the Pages of Vogue to Prada

Photo: Courtesy of Fabio Zambernardi

Today, Miuccia Prada, the modernist and avid vintage jewelry collector, accessorized her fall show with floral brooches. Sparkling or solid, they bloomed boutonniere-like from lapels of Easter egg–colored suits, and from the shoulders of beribboned dresses whose debutante prettiness was refreshingly upended by their brevity.

Seen out of context—say halfway down a tweed coat—and removed from their traditional suited-ladies-who-lunch context, these flower pins looked youthful and playful rather than mumsy. As an old favorite is reborn, we look back at some of the never wilting jeweled flower brooches that have appeared in Vogue.
