Juno Temple Talks Pixies, Mental Health and the Power of Erotica

FAIRY TALE: Juno Temple was excited to reunite with her fellow cast for the upcoming sequel to Disney’s “Maleficent,” though it turns out that playing a pixie can be lonely work.
“It was sensational, but I actually didn’t get to work with a lot of the cast,” the British actress, who stars as Thistletwit in the fantasy film, said at the Celine show on Friday.
“It’s so wild, the experience of making a film like that, because the technology of creating people like me into a tiny little fairy is so far along now that you do your little individual moments without actually being in some of the scenes,” she added.
In fact, Temple has yet to even see the film. “There’s a premiere coming up pretty imminently, and I’m going to see it with everybody else,” she said.
The actress joined guests including Catherine Deneuve, Margaret Qualley, Carla Bruni, Miles Kane, Alex Kapranos and Blackpink singer Lisa Manoban, whose arrival caused the biggest commotion outside and inside the black tent erected in front of the gilded dome of the Invalides in Paris.

DJ Skee Talks Returning To FUSE For SKEE TV Season 2: “The Quality Of Production Has Doubled”

The boundaries DJ Skee continues to push for not himself and his team’s brand but for the Hip-Hop culture as a whole, is nothing short of astronomical.

After a successful first season of his unrivaled SKEE TV variety show, the new and improved FUSE saw no reason not to ask him back for another go around. Hip-Hop Wired crashed the taping of the upcoming first show (yes, the same one that airs tonight where The Game disses Young Thug) and caught up with the host to explain how he keeps his win tally up.

HHW: What was the feeling you had when you woke up this morning and knew you were about to be consumed with Season 2 of SKEE TV?

DJ Skee: It feels great because when you’re going into the second round of anything, you kind of gotten a feel for what works and what doesn’t it and get a little room in between to think about it. We have a bunch of different things from new 3-D type signs on stage to various format changes. It’s still the same show but just a lot of the little details we were able to really tweak and spend the time on and get right. Even with the talent, we have more time to put it together and get more people who are aware of it and it’s really exciting. It just really steps it up a level.

HHW: You kind of got a bit of a monopoly going on seeing that there isn’t a lot of Hip-Hop entities/blog world/digital age on television right now.

DJ Skee: It’s really interesting. We got online before a lot of people were and now there’s not a lot of stuff on TV, we saw that there would be a huge opportunity and huge potential. It’s something we’re really proud and worked really hard to get and something we love owning in the space so we really want to represent the culture in an authentic, honest and positive way while showcasing the opportunity for those [artists] who are on the rise as well.

HHW: How big has Fuse’s role been on this?

DJ Skee: Fuse has been awesome. Straight up. They’re under new ownership and they totally relaunched the network the same week we came back with season 2 of the show right here. They understand what are brand is and what we do and give us the opportunity to let us do whatever we want. They understand our place within the culture and what we do within the community, and allow us to excel and showcase our skills while utilizing the amazing platform to present to the craziest audience they have of over 70 million homes. It’s really cool to be a part of the new umbrella of their brand which is about being yourself.

the-game-dj-skee-season-2

HHW: What is the biggest change we can expect when comparing Season 2 and Season 1?

DJ Skee: I’d say a level of production quality. You’ll notice it right away if you watched last season. Our biggest problem is we always run out of time and only about an hour a week to say it in. So we’re always pushing to get more in there and we kind of figured out the formula and really maximize that time. So you’ll see a much more well thought out show with bigger guests and we really stepped it up a notched this season.

HHW: It seems like it was only right that you had The Game on as the first guest to kickoff the new wave?

DJ Skee: Absolutely. And we are going to get to the bottom of this two-album deal he has going on. The first one is incredible. Ten years ago, we dropped “300 Bars” and I owe a lot of success to him for being the catalyst behind much of brand. I’ve always said, no matter what you think about him or the drama that surrounds him, he’s one of the most talented artists I’ve ever been in the studio with in my life and he continues to prove that over and over. Musically he’s evolved a lot as an artist and it’ll be great to have him and get inside his head.

SKEE TV airs on Fridays on 10pm/9c on FUSE (starting tonight!) and will features the likes of Fetty Wap, Keke Palmer, T-Pain, Overdoz., Post Malone and many more. Tune in.

Drake Talks Meek Mill Beef: “This Is How You Want To Play It?”

Drake sat down for an increasingly rare interview with The Fader for its 100th issue. Of course, he talked his beef with Meek Mill, an he let the chopper spray.

Drizzy brought the situation up without the writer even having to ask, starting with when Funkmaster Flex pump faked everybody.

“I’m just gonna bring it up ‘cause it’s important to me,” Drake told The Fader. “I was at a charity kickball game—which we won, by the way—and my brother called me. He was just like, ‘I don’t know if you’re aware, but, yo, they’re trying to end us out here. They’re just spreading, like, propaganda. Where are you? You need to come here.’ So we all circled up at the studio, and sat there as Flex went on the air, and these guys flip-flopped [about how] they were gonna do this, that, and the third.”

Then, when Drake dropped “Charged Up, ” there no immediate retort.

Says The Fader:

When a reply to “Charged Up” didn’t come, Drake could hardly believe it. “This is a discussion about music, and no one’s putting forth any music?” he says, speaking with a furrowed brow, as if reliving his incredulity. “You guys are gonna leave this for me to do? This is how you want to play it? You guys didn’t think this through at all—nobody? You guys have high-ranking members watching over you. Nobody told you that this was a bad idea, to engage in this and not have something? You’re gonna engage in a conversation about writing music, and delivering music, with me? And not have anything to put forth on the table?”

Taking offense to Meek Mill failing to have worthy retaliation in the chamber, he figured he had to make a song that have vitriol, and could get radio play (see: “Back To Back”).

It was then that he decided to just go ahead and do another song. “I was like, ‘I’m gonna probably just finish this.’ And I know how I have to finish it. This has to literally become the song that people want to hear every single night, and it’s gonna be tough to exist during this summer when everybody wants to hear [this] song that isn’t necessarily in your favor.”

And there you have it.

The 100th issue of The Fader hits newsstands on October 27. Peep the full cover story, including his thoughts on ghostwriting, right here. Video of the cover shoot on the flip.

Sophie Merchant Screens Film, Talks Music

MERCHANT IVORY: Musician Florence Welch recently wore a bespoke silver skirt by designer Sophie Merchant on the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury. “We share a love of beautiful clothing,” Merchant said at her spring presentation, noting she, Welch and stylist Aldene Johnson have been collaborating for some years.
Merchant showcased her Merchant Archive collection, inspired by British sculptor Barbara Hepworth, in a moody short film by Olivia Beasley, screened at the new Soho House in London’s Dean Street. Its protagonists are depicted building a house on a beach, recalling Hepworth’s colony of artists in St Ives. Silhouettes such as silk shirtdresses with cone sleeves were designed with “roundness” to echo Hepworth’s sculptures, Merchant said. In addition to the screening, three actual looks were on display, including a circular skirt of scuba wool featuring a graphic seascape in ivory raffia and a suit of jade silk.

Google’s Eric Schmidt Talks Tech at Tory Burch

Google’s executive chairman Eric Schmidt is thinking about fashion, being cool and how artificial intelligence can help brands connect the two.
The billionaire, who’s on Tory Burch’s advisory board and was front-row at the designer’s spring show Tuesday, told WWD that computers are getting closer to helping fashion make better decisions.
“What is the trend in fashion? More and more product, it’s more and more confusing with faster product cycles,” Schmidt said before the show. “Wouldn’t it be nice if there were a solution which said, ‘Well, we’ve sort of modeled this and this is where things are going and this is the emergent stuff.’ And so it would make sense. It would make you smarter, it wouldn’t replace you.”
Schmidt, who has also invested in retail tech and mobile commerce, imagined computers with artificial intelligence being able to take a picture of a dress and tell a brand whether it was going to be cool or not.
“There’s a science around cool,” he said. “And the science is that cool people move and then everyone else moves. If you could model that and if you could figure that out, that would help you because then you’d have a jump and you’d say, ‘I

Isis King Talks About Caitlyn Jenner Coming Out

Model, actress, and designer Isis King may have been born biologically male, but ever since childhood she knew she was woman. Establishing a transgender identity does not come easy though, and at 23, Isis was homeless, living at a New York City LGBT shelter. After finding work as a background model for an America’s Next Top Model photo shoot, host Tyra Banks took an interest in her, and asked Isis be a part of the show’s next season. Within months, Isis was in the national spotlight as the first transgender contestant on Top Model, and she has used her platform to follow her dreams ever since – expanding her modeling and acting career, designing her own clothing line, and serving as an activist for transgender people everywhere.

Is the attention on Caitlyn Jenner good or bad from the transgender community?

“Definitely” says Isis. “Any time you can bring more awareness to the struggle and reality of so many people, it’s helpful.” Isis emphasizes the importance of showing more trans stories in media, hoping that it will lend a “normality” to the trans experience.

However, she acknowledges that there is still work to be done. The murder rate of trans people of color has gone up, and many appearances of transgender people in the media still feature rampant misgendering – that is, labelling people by their birth gender instead of how they actually identify. This process “invalidates the way audiences view people who have transitioned,” and is hurtful and damaging, especially when the misgendered person is a victim in the news. Caitlyn has certainly helped the visibility, but Isis stresses the need for more “normal” transgender people in the media to really improve mainstream awareness and acceptance.

Ellen DeGeneres Talks Plans for Men’s Wear and Furniture for ED Collection

Ellen DeGeneres was very much having a when-worlds-collide moment Thursday night at Bergdorf Goodman as fans bought copies of her new book “Home” and fashion types pieced through her ED collection.
During the course of the night, which included a private dinner, Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, Justin Timberlake and Pharrell Williams were among the other Ellen admirers who filed through the 57th Street store. Appropriately, Friday Pink debuted a new theme song on DeGeneres’ talk show — “Today’s the Day.”
“It’s like a brand new year that I’m kicking into because I’ve been a comedian, I’ve been an actress. I’m a talk show host — that’s easy for me. I can do that in my sleep. This is a whole new challenge. It’s exciting and I’m learning a lot.” DeGeneres said. “As far as managing my time, I love clothing, and I love design, and I love houses. And I love fashion. So it’s not really an effort, it’s more fun.”
Standing beside her wife Portia de Rossi, DeGeneres said getting into fashion was even more of an undertaking than expected. “For sure, because it’s also going to be much bigger than I ever imagined. We just did this deal with Camuto [Group]

Formula One Racer Lewis Hamilton Talks Sport, Fashion

Formula One racer Lewis Hamilton is fast becoming a regular on the fashion circuit.
If romantic links to Rihanna and Kendall Jenner weren’t enough to jump the velvet rope, the British 30-year-old counts Riccardo Tisci and Olivier Rousteing among his friends. Even though one of his Etro ensembles didn’t measure up to Wimbledon’s dress code this summer, he became a London Collections: Men ambassador just the same.
After catching up with his new friend Gayle King at Ellen DeGeneres’ pop-up store party at Bergdorf Goodman, Hamilton breezed by Moncler’s “Art for Love” celebration at the New York Public Library. There the Monaco-based driver had a good long chat with the brand’s leader Remo Ruffini and his wife Anna Imponente about their respective summer sun and fun.
Hamilton started racing 22 years ago at the age of eight. His most recent Formula One race was the fastest one to date, with drivers hovering around 230 mph. In total, he has 40 Grand Prix titles to date. Off hours though on the open road, he doesn’t “really drive much. It’s easier being driven.” Hamilton said. “I ride a motorbike most of the time. And generally I’m in my shorts and T-shirt in Monaco so I’m

Iman, Cindy Crawford, Zac Posen and Stan Herman Set for 92Y Talks

FALL IN PLACE: Fern Mallis will help get New York Fashion Week rolling Tuesday night with a 92Y question-and-answer with Iman. The entrepreneurial model celebrated her 60th birthday a few months ago. Another business-minded designer favorite, Cindy Crawford, will catch up with Mallis at the Upper East Side Y on Sept. 29, the launch date of her new book, “Becoming.” Nearing her 50th birthday in February, the supermodel will be making the rounds, detailing how her career came to be.
Mallis has lined up a very familiar face in her own life, Stan Herman, for the Nov. 17 installment of her “Fashion Icons” talks. She first met Herman  in 1969, when she was a Mademoiselle guest editor assigned to interview the designer. (Herman has a sleepwear collection sold on QVC and has designed uniforms for UPS and various airlines for decades.) Years later, the pair worked more closely together at the Council of Fashion Designers of America. Mallis even rented a small cottage on his Southampton property for six years in the early Nineties and has owned one nearby for 18 years. “As far as I’m concerned, Stan’s a real insider-insider. Scarface Talks Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton & Why Donald Trump Is A Genius (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Hip Hop fans know Scarface is not one to hold his tongue. The rap legend sat down with The Unlikely Show with Chuck Creekmur and Nida Khan, and the conversation covered the current state of American politics.

As the 2016 presidential campaign heats up, Face had a lot to say about leading candidates Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton. He also mentioned the current man in the White House – President Barack Obama.

“I said that I wouldn’t vote for Obama, because I love him, and they’re gonna want him hanged after that,” said Scarface referring to lyrics from his Emeritus album. “I said that sh*t way before he was the president.”

Clinton is currently the favorite to replace Obama as the next presidential nominee of the Democratic Party. The former Secretary of State has been facing criticism for using a personal email server. But she has consistently claimed none of the messages were marked classified.

“Hillary’s getting f*cked with behind emails,” stated Scarface. “Who gives a f*ck about an email? Was it kiddie porn or some sh*t? Do we have a f*cking problem?”

When it came to controversial Republican front-runner Donald Trump, Face offered an explanation for why the businessman/reality TV star is connecting with certain voters.

“I think Donald Trump is a genius. I think he’s a gazillionaire for a reason,” said the Houston native. “I think he may say some sh*t that’s offensive. I think he is unapologetic, because he’s f*cking rich.”

Scarface added, “I’m not advocating a motherf*cking thing about Donald Trump. But I see his vision, and I know what his aim is. Does that sh*t help us in our position where we are today? No, because we don’t have the money to invest in the sh*t he’s getting ready to put together.”

Scarface’s Deeply Rooted album is scheduled for release on September 4.

Mike Epps Talks ‘Soaking’ Up Richard Pryor Role, Hints At Timeline

After a long casting process, it appears Lee Daniels’ Richard Pryor biopic is set to begin production soon.

The late comedian will be played by Mike Epps. According to Epps, the all-star cast — which includes Eddie Murphy, Oprah Winfrey, and Kate Hudson – is scheduled to begin filming in March 2016.

“We start prepping in January, and start shooting in March,” he said during an interview with The Huffington Post. “Eddie Murphy’s playing my father, Oprah Winfrey’s playing my grandmother, Kate Hudson’s playing my girl, and I’m playing Richard Pryor.”

Epps went on to share how preparing for the role of Pryor, who died in 2005, has required him to delve into the many layers of the late comedy legend.

“Right now, I’m just really soaking it up. I’m just a sponge right now,” he said. “Just doing a lot research on the history of Richard Pryor. Trying to figure out the things that I need to figure out to play certain scenes. How I need to feel. What state of mind I need to be in, because this guy was a roller coaster, man. It wasn’t easy. [He was] close to something that’s scientific — broken down into a whole lot of different ways.”

As the 44-year-old actor gears up for the iconic role, he is also busy promoting season 2 of Starz’s original series, “Survivor’s Remorse.” The comedy series, which is produced by NBA superstar LeBron James and follows the life of a young professional basketball star, Cam Calloway (played by Jessie T. Usher), as he navigates his newfound fame, wealth, and personal relationships.

While the show addresses relevant topics surrounding the lives of professional athletes, Epps — who plays Calloway’s uncle, Julius — says the show isn’t just relatable to people in the world of sports.

“The whole show itself is relatable to anybody that’s in show business because it’s ‘survivor’s remorse,’” he said. “So the whole thing about money, family, and friends, and love and all that — it all ties in together.”

“Survivor’s Remorse” premieres Saturday August 22 at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT

Betty Buckley Talks Provincetown Events, LGBT Equality and More (AUDIO)

2015-08-17-1439817376-2331125-HuffBuckley.jpg

This week, I talked with Tony Winner Betty Buckley about her upcoming events presented by Adam Berry at the Peregrine Theatre Ensemble in Provincetown, Massachusetts on September 2, 3 and 4. Buckley is doing a “talk back” with the audience after the performance of Carrie the Musical on Sept. 2 and on Sept. 3 and 4, she will be performing songs from her album Ghostlight produced by T Bone Burnett, and material from her musical theater catalogue for a two-night concert event entitled “An Evening With Betty Buckley.”

Betty has been called “the Voice of Broadway” and won a Tony Award for her performance as Grizabella, the Glamour Cat, in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats. Her career spans across theater, film, television and concert halls around the world and she was inducted into the Theater Hall of Fame in 2012. Currently, she’s appearing as Big Edie in the musical Grey Gardens now through August 30th at Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor, New York. I talked to Betty about her busy summer schedule and as a fierce gay ally she shared her insights on our LGBT issues.

LISTEN:

When asked what her personal commitment is to LGBT civil rights Buckley stated:

Everyone in theater is completely committed to that and has great concern because all of our companions are gay. So many artists in the theater are gay men and gay women, that’s been a cause of mine.

My original dance teachers from the time I was eleven in Fort Worth, Texas were a gay couple. Thank God for gay people in the arts and in theater and design. What would we do otherwise? Some of the great fashion, great theatrical minds are persons from the gay community.

My brother Norman Buckley who’s a brilliant director in television, he directed Pretty Little Liars, The Fosters, Mysteries of Laura and Rizzoli & Isles amongst other TV shows is a gay man who just lost his husband last fall to suicide. His husband Davyd Whaley was a brilliant painter who had been very abused in his childhood for being gay.

It’s a profound and necessary concern of our community. We’ve all raised money for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS through the years, which has been an honor and a privilege. I was just at a friend’s house in East Hampton and their little six year old son has been persistent about saying that he is a girl and they finally in recent months have allowed him to assume the identity that is obviously most naturally his.

It’s good that all this information is coming to our consciousness the way it is now. The bullying and the scare that people feel about not being part of the mainstream is such a sad thing and we have to stop because its uniqueness, its individuality that’s created all good things and we should praise that and celebrate it wherever it occurs in our world.

Betty Buckley other Broadway credits include 1776, Pippin, Song and Dance, The Mystery of Edwin Drood and Carrie. Her films include her debut in Brian de Palma’s screen version of Stephen King’s Carrie, Bruce Beresford’s Tender Mercies, Roman Polanski’s Frantic, Woody Allen’s Another Woman, Lawrence Kasden’s Wyatt Earp and M. Night Shymalan’s The Happening. On television Buckley starred for three seasons in the HBO series Oz and as Abby Bradford in the hit series Eight is Enough. She has also appeared as a guest star in numerous television series, miniseries and films for television. For information and tickets for her upcoming events in Provincetown,

EXCLUSIVE: Jon Connor Talks ‘Compton’ Studio Sessions with Dr. Dre, the ‘Straight Outta Compton’ Movie, and Getting Signed to Aftermath

On Tuesday, August 11, AllHipHop.com had the wonderful opportunity to speak with Aftermath recording artist (and AHH Breeding Ground alumni), Jon Connor.  The Flint, Michigan, native’s skills and tireless dedication to his craft have really been paying off as late.  Not only did he sign with the legendary Dr. Dre, but he also made two outstanding contributions to Dre’s Compton offering.connor-dre

During our conversation, Connor, among other things, broke down what its like working with one of the best producers to ever do it, shared memories of being on the set for Straight Outta Compton, and hinted that he has more dope music on the way.

One of the things he said to me while wrapping up was, “At the end of the day, I’m a fan of Hip-Hop just like everybody else.  I’m one of the people.”  And that is something which, even with all his success, has never evaded him.

If Connor continues to build on his already strong pillars of talent, respect for Hip-Hop culture, and gratitude for his fans, he will have a long and successful career which surpasses the competition.

It’s still Aftermath and there ain’t goin’ be nothin’ after that!

AllHipHop.com: Thank you so much for taking time to speak me and AllHipHop.com.  We really appreciate it.  You and I have talked before and that was a real pleasure, so I’ve been looking forward to this interview.

Jon Connor: I want to say back, the same thing with you all.  It’s mutual.  I appreciate you all and the way you have always supported me from day one.  It’s always a pleasure, man.

First off, congratulations on the Compton album.  Are you pleased with the response it has been getting?

Yes, there has been an overwhelming love.  And just knowing that everybody has been so excited and finally we get this project from Dre that people have been waiting so long for.  The love is overwhelming; the response has been amazing.  And the way it’s going hand-in-hand with the Straight Outta Compton movie, you couldn’t ask for a better platform or set up.

I’ve seen social media pics of you, Dre, and others in the studio where you’ve referred to yourself as a “student.”  What would you say is the greatest lesson you’ve learned from these sessions?

There’s so many because, with Dre, Dre is the greatest producer of all-time.  For me, he’s like the Quincy Jones of Hip-Hop.  So the thing is, everyday you’re constantly learning.  I’d say one of the greatest things I’ve learned from Dre is that greatness is in the details.  Don’t let anything slide.  If you’re tired or haveDre, Game, Jon Connor been working for 12 hours and are ready to go to sleep, you still put in the same effort and the same time as when you first got there.  Work your hardest until you can barely keep your eyes open.  If you have to go through every song and comb through every lyric and melody and harmony and cadence, you do it because he [Dr. Dre] has a commitment to greatness.  We all call Dr. Dre the greatest of all-time and I’m just fortunate and blessed enough to be able to be at the studio and understand why.  I’ve always thought I had a grind and hard work ethic in me, but, by being around Dre, it just got taken to another level.

Just to follow up with that, to paint a picture, have you been in the studio with Dre where you’ve watched him make a beat?  Or has it been where he has pulled up an instrumental and asked you to write to it?  How does that whole process work?

That process is actually different from record to record.  There are joints where I was actually there for the conception of the music.  Like “One Shot One Kill,” I was there when that beat got made.  “One Shot One Kill” is like my baby *laughs*.  I watched it go from an idea and a sample to the addition of the live instrumentation and Snoop and everything that it eventually ended up becoming.  But it’s different from record to record, Dre is the type of cat where it’s all based on the feel.  If he’s feeling it and the vibe and the energy is there… he doesn’t care how the creative process happens.  The one common denominator in every record is that the vibe and positive energy is there.

That’s actually a great segue into one of my other questions.  What went through your head when you first found out that you were given song credit as the lead performing artist on “One Shot One Kill” as opposed to just being a guest feature?

I still don’t know if that has completely soaked into my brain.  It’s crazy.  I have a record with me featuring Snoop Dogg on Dr. Dre’s last album.  That’s beyond anything I could have ever dreamed.  It feels amazing.  Statik Selektah hit me and he said, “You are forever etched in Hip-Hop history.”  And the magnitude of that statement, I don’t know if I’ll ever really be able to fathom or truly understand it.  All I know is that it’s an amazing feeling and honestly it’s hard for me to even put it in words.

And then, of course, there’s “For the Love of Money”  which you also appear on.  Prior to telling a friend about this interview, he sent me a screenshot of his phone with that song highlighted and a caption which read “This song is on repeat.”  He told me how he looked you up, and I said that I’d been following your work for years.  You’re satisfying old fans and getting new ones.  It’s a beautiful thing, bro.

And with that I want to say ‘thank you’ and tell your man I said, ‘thank you‘ too.  It’s an amazing time.  This is my dream.  I’m a kid from Flint, Michigan, man.  It’s one of the most poverty-stricken places in the United States and so for us to be talking about the things we’re talking about, I’m truly humbled by that and I just to let the people know there’s more where that came from and I’ll forever be thankful to Dre for giving me this platform.  And I want to thank AllHipHop because you’ve all been rocking with me for years and y’all know the grind that I’ve put down and how hard I worked for this.  And with Dre, he saw and understood me as an artist and believed in me enough to give me a platform.  I’m just humbled by all of this.

One of the things I did to prepare for this is I went back and listened to “Big Brother” off of your Best in the World series.  And listened to how you described the whole scenario where Dre signed you.  How did that situation play out?

Yo, it was three phone calls and a flight.  There was the initial call when Xzibit hit me like, “Yo, I’m gonna let Dre hear your music.”  Then the second call was, “Okay, give me 10 songs you want Dre to hear.”  Then the third call was, “Dre wants you to be in California tomorrow.”  When I got to California, I was working the whole time.  Think about it, man.  I’m from Flint.  If you’re from Flint, you think Dr. Dre lives on like Mars or Jupiter.  And so for him to like your music… he was just playing beats and I rapped every verse I ever wrote.  I was pulling out verses from high school.  I was like I’m not leaving this house until Dr. Dre falls in love with what I do.  Whatever he needed to hear, I was gonna spit it.  It got to the point where I rapped so much, he finally just stopped the music and was like, “Alright, what do you want to do?”  And that was the moment that changed my life.

Thoughts on Straight Outta Compton?

It’s crazy, my experiences with the movie because I was fortunate enough to go on the set as they were making the movie.  There’s no weirder feeling, I was on the set one day where they were shooting a scene with the characters that play Dr. Dre and his wife Nicole.  And I’m sitting in one of these chairs on set as the real Dr. Dre and Nicole are sitting in front of me.  I leaned into Dre and was like, “Man, do you feel crazy right now?”  When I got signed to Aftermath, the movie was still at its infant stage where they still coming up with the script and picking actors.  I had a chance to legitimately watch this movie grow and become what it has become…  I think people already know it’s going to be good because it’s the story of N.W.A and we all want to see it,  but just the attention to detail that Gary, Dre, and Cube put into the movie – I think it’s going to surprise people because they’ll be things about N.W.A and their relationship and how things went down that none of us as fans knew.  It’s a great movie for Hip-Hop and a great movie in the sense of just being a great movie.

Jumping back to music, do you have any more “Best in the World” stuff coming out or is your next release going to be your Aftermath debut with original music?

You know what?  I don’t want to give away too much, but just know that the things that I am working on are almost done.  And we are so close to completion, it’s crazy.  But right now though, I just want the people to enjoy Compton.  For me right now, it’s all about Dre and thirty years plus of the greatest to ever do it.  It’s Dre Day!

Everybody Has A Tattoo, But Nobody Talks About The Side Effects

By Kathryn Doyle

(Reuters Health) – Tattoo health and safety regulations tend to focus on short-term risks like infections, but little is actually known about the long-term risks of living with ink under your skin, according to a new review in The Lancet.

“Almost everybody these days has a tattoo, and nobody is talking about the side effects of ink deposits,” said senior author Dr. Andreas Luch of the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment in Berlin.

“There is no proof that these ink ingredients are safe, being injected into the body,” Luch told Reuters Health.

Between one and five percent of tattooed people suffer a bacterial infection, and some people can have allergic reactions to the ink, according to the report.

Those are short-term effects. It is harder to measure the long-term effects of ink since tattoo inks are in most countries classified as cosmetics, Luch said.

Since the inks are classified as cosmetics, their long-term toxicology can’t be tested in animals, Luch said. In his opinion, tattoo inks should be a completely different product category.

The skin barrier effectively keeps surface cosmetics out of the body, he said.

But tattoo ink is injected into living tissue, which contains blood vessels, nerves and immune cells.

“We need to assume that all of these ink ingredients, including preservatives, processing aids or whatever, will become systemically available in the body over time,” Luch said. “Regulation based on cosmetics is insufficient.”

Examining the bodies of the deceased who have had tattoos for decades has shown that up to 90 percent of the ink has disappeared from the skin, he said.

“We cannot answer the question what is going to happen with these inks,” whether they accumulate in organs over time or are excreted, Luch said.

Similar questions remain for laser tattoo removal: when the pigments are fractured and fragmented under the skin – where do they go – he added.

“In the U.S. the (Food and Drug Administration) has the authority to regulate inks, but is not currently doing so,” said Dr. Michi Shinohara, a dermatologist at the University of Washington in Seattle who was not involved in the review.

“Regulation of tattoo parlors and tattoo artists is left to the states, and the requirements for operating vary widely from very minimal (bloodborne pathogen training) to fairly complex (hundreds of hours of apprenticeship),” Shinohara told Reuters Health by email.

There are no industry standards for ink ingredients, the industry is minimally regulated, and few problems with tattoos are reported to authorities, she said.

Modern tattoo inks mostly contain organic pigments, but can also include preservatives and contaminants like nickel, arsenic and lead, Luch and his coauthors note. In one study in Switzerland, preservatives banned for use in cosmetics were found in 14 percent of tattoo ink samples.

Reactions tend to be more common from colored inks than from black and white ones, Luch said.

Tattooing has been going on for at least 5,000 years, but has become a modern trend, with roughly 120 million people in the western hemisphere having at least one tattoo, Luch said.

“The acute risks are well known,” including pain, bleeding, infection and allergic reaction, Luch said. “The tattooist at least needs to explain that something like this could happen,” he said.

But long term risks, like organ toxicity or cancer, are still unknown, he said.

“It’s an individual decision, we cannot tell someone not to get a tattoo,” Luch said. “I wouldn’t like to have a tattoo on my skin, but if a person likes colored skin, what can I say?”

It’s not necessary for people to stop getting tattoos, Shinohara said, “but I think people should be smart about it – research the parlor, ask about any recent problems, follow the aftercare instructions and report immediately to the tattoo artist and a physician for any problems that occur after tattooing.”

Perry Farrell Talks Paul McCartney and Lollapalooza

COME TOGETHER: With headlining acts like Metallica and Sir Paul McCartney, “sentimental” is the word Perry Farrell, Jane’s Addiction frontman and Lollapalooza founder, used to describe his feelings toward this year’s three-day music festival that begins today in Chicago’s Grant Park.
“Growing up as a little boy, the first band that I loved was The Beatles,” Farrell said at a cocktail party on Thursday at Nellcôte in the West Loop. “My big brother and my big sister had all the records. I was a little Beatles maniac, I had Beatles boots and a Beatles haircut. To know that Paul McCartney is going to be performing on stage at my party — the party I’m throwing — is a real shining moment in my life.”
Farrell collaborated with McCartney on his last record, but said he’s still amazed the former Beatle is on the bill. “I would never have told you in 1991 [the year the festival was created] that one day Paul McCartney is going to be playing on my stage. The fact that he is just gives me a beaming smile. My heart is beaming. Paul is a smart man and smart musicians decide to collaborate and perform at festivals. Even

The Beautiful Brooklyn Chase Talks Adult Entertainment !

The lovely Brooklyn Chase takes the moment to sit down and speak with us about adult entertainment, her interests and much more ! Hailing from the West Coast we are pleased to introduce to you Brooklyn Chase one of the hottest new talents in the game !

Hello Brooklyn Chase, tell us a bit about yourself, where are you from ? How did you get your name ? Tell us about yourself.

I was born and raised in beautiful San Diego, but just moved to the East to be near family. I’ve been in the industry for just over three years and I’m having an absolute blast! I got my name by going through a baby name book and mixing and matching until I found “it”.

How did you get into the industry ? How many scenes have you done and what is your favourite type of porn to shoot ?

I got into the industry by finding my first agent. Porn was never on my radar until then, but I was looking for a new career where I could embrace my sexuality and enjoy life. I was thinking about stripping when I stumbled into porn. I have no clue how many scenes I’ve shot, but it’s a lot! My favorite type to shoot is boy/girl.

Were there any porn stars in the industry you looked at as inspiration to be like in terms of success ? We’ve seen girls like Lisa Ann, Nikki Benz, Skin Diamond, Sasha Grey, Sara Jay, Pinky, Abella Anderson and many others surpass porn and branch off into other areas. Is that something you would do?

I’ve always looked to Lisa Ann as inspiration. She built her name into a porn empire and she’s still a sweet and classy lady. I’d love to follow in her footsteps, with my own Brooklyn twist!

Going by your instagram, if I didn’t know any better I’d never guess you were in adult films, you have that “girl next door” look to you. Are people surprised when they find out your profession ?

There aren’t many people that I have to tell. Most already know before they meet me, but I have had some surprised friends. I’m very “normal” and that’s what surprises people. I cook, clean, craft, never wear makeup, always like to be covered in clothes; totally different than I am in film. But both are real parts of me!

If you weren’t doing porn what would you be doing instead ?

I would love to do interior design. I enjoy putting together my home and helping friends decorate theirs. Im pretty good at it, too.

Are you single and do you find it harder to balance relationships outside of porn ? Do you have an expectation of porn sex versus regular sex ? Is it harder to sustain that level of ecstasy ?

I am married. I think if you have a supportive spouse, the balancing act is easy. Porn sex and regular sex are often polar opposites, mostly because regular sex has an immensely stronger emotional connection, which makes it better.

What makes for a good sex scene/sexual experience for a scene ? What turns you on ?

A really good scene is a perfect storm of many things. The girl needs to feel comfortable, she needs to feel confident in her body/makeup/outfit, the male and female talents need to be comfortable with each other, and it needs to be a fun environment. If everyone is feeling good, good sex (and therefore a good scene) is a given.

You’ve done some interracial in porn, recently we’ve seen Lisa Ann speak about it the controversy surrounding it in interviews, Sasha Grey also spoke on it also. Did you catch any flack for it ? Would you keep doing it and do you date black men in your personal life ?

I absolutely will keep doing interracial scenes. I truthfully don’t understand what the controversy is around it. I have caught some flack, but it’s been very minimal. And I don’t need fans like that, anyways.

According to Google, pornography is the most searched topic, it could be argued that porn is perhaps one of the best technological revolutions to grace the internet, we’ve seen it go from Peer to Peer sharing sites and go all the way to pay sites to tube sites where people get it for free. Do you think that’s a good thing or bad thing for porn studios and are you personally affected by free porn ?

Every person that is in any way connected to the adult industry is negatively affected by free porn. If studios aren’t making money off a scene, how can they possibly have the resources to continue to produce more content? If viewers want to continue to have porn to search, they need to understand that it isn’t free to produce. Pay for your porn!

If you had to name one guy or girl alive or dead in entertainment (sports and film), music or pop culture, that you would sleep with, who would it be ?

No contest, it would be Justin Timberlake. I’ve had an unhealthy obsession for more years than I care to reveal.

Seems like you’d utilized social media pretty well, congratulations on 250,000 followers ! Some feel that social media is making it harder for entertainers because now they have to directly compete with everybody else and people can become stars almost overnight. Do you worry about that or has the game been good to you ?

Hitting a quarter million followers still blows my mind, so thank you! I’ve never felt competition, but it’s not because I think I’m anything special. Every star has their own look, their own energy that they bring to a scene, and their own following. If a company doesn’t shoot me, it’s not because I have competition. It’s because what I bring to the screen isn’t right for their particular fan base, and that’s ok!

What’s been the biggest challenge for you so far in porn ?

My biggest challenge isn’t anything serious. I hit 30 years old this year and have found it harder and harder to keep my body in tip-top shape. Diet and exercise have never been my forte.

A few more important questions that always intrigued me. It’s in regards to Mr. Marcus a few years back falsifying a document so he could shoot a scene. How does the testing go before a scene is shot ? How long does it take for results ? Do you and the person(s) you’re working with stay in the same vicinity so you’re not out having sex with someone else before the scene is filmed ?

Testing results are received 24 hours after the samples are obtained and remain valid for 14 days. Before a scene is shot, both male and female talent show each other their test results and ensure that everyone is comfortable. We have no control over what, or who, people do in their personal time, but as a whole, talent is respectful of the risks and is careful.

Do you have other interests outside of porn ? Like another business interest or something you do people would be surprised to know ? Make it interesting !

I’m so boring! I have a craft room in my house and spend a lot of time in there. I love making DIY projects for my home and as gifts for others.

I always have to ask – Who would be your top 5 favourite artists and why ? And what would be your top 3 favourite albums of all time ??

I’m a country listener, so my top five artists would be Luke Bryan, Brad Paisley, Miranda Lambert, Blake Shelton, Keith Urban. I’ve never been an album buyer. I like the variety of the radio.

Can we expect to see some new material from you soon ? What do you have coming up next ?

I just shot a solid week of new scenes, so there will be some new and exciting stuff soon!

Do you have any shout outs or anything you want to leave the fans with ? Where can we find more of your work or keep up to date with the beautiful Brooklyn Chase ?

I would like to say thank you to my fans, new and old! Your support is unimaginable! People can find me on Twitter at@brooklyn_chase and on Instagram also at @brooklyn_chase.

Eminem Talks Best Rappers Out & Why He Doesn’t Go On The Internet

Eminem has a very big week ahead musically and he’s not even releasing a solo album. The soundtrack to Southpaw, the upcoming drama starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Rachel McAdams and 50 Cent is being released via Shady Records and features two leadoff singles from the “Phenomenal” rapper.

While speaking to The New York Times, Eminem explained when he knew to keep one finger on the game’s pulse and when not to.

Are you plugged in with current rap music?

I try to stay up on everything that’s out. I love [Lil] Wayne, Drake, Big Sean, Schoolboy Q. I love Kendrick [Lamar]. I just try to pay attention to what’s out. Wayne puts out a new song, and my ears perk up. There are certain artists that make me do that just because of the caliber that they rhyme at — it’s like candy to me. Kendrick, the way he puts albums together — front to back, they’re like pieces of art. But hip-hop needs Drake, too. Hip-hop needs Big Sean. I feel like hip-hop is in a good place right now. There’s this balance of things going on, and it feels like some of the best rappers are the most successful. Sometimes that’s not the case.

Do you feel competitive with the Kanyes and Drakes and Kendricks of the world? You seem a little removed from that.

Kanye, as well — I forgot to mention Kanye. I’ll always be lyrically competitive.

Where do you hear new stuff?

Other people tell me about it and pull it up for me. I wait for other people to show it to me. I don’t particularly go on the Internet, because the experiences that I’ve had are not good. It’s not productive for me.

You don’t want to Google your own name?

Once I’m on the computer, it’s over, because I’m tempted to look at everything. I went on the computer recently and got on one site, read five comments and was like, “Man.” I have friends that do it — rapper friends. I’m like, “I don’t know how you do that.” Because you end up wanting to fight someone, kill them, or kill yourself — usually all three at once.

Do you think Twitter and Instagram have affected rap?

I know there are a lot of Twitter beefs. People used to just make songs. But it is what it is. The world’s forever changing, and you’ve just gotta adapt and evolve.

Southpaw (Music from and Inspired By the Motion Picture) drops on July 24. Read the rest of the interview over at The New York Times.

NLA- “No Days Off” + Talks Influences, Need For Girl Groups, & State Of R&B!

Fresh on the scene with their official single “No Days Off” featuring the Migos, NLA consists of Nina Moody from Jackson, Florida, Jessica Benson from Baltimore, Maryland and Janeen Casey from Little Rock, Arkansas. These three uber talented ladies were literally handpicked based on their hard work coming up on the Atlanta music scene. With collective musical influences spanning from Usher to Chris Brown to Destiny’s Child to TLC, Total, and Aaliyah. This group is as diverse as it is magical! NLA is giving you the feel of classic R&B with a club edge, and are more ready than ever (after four years of development) to make their mark on the music scene. NLA is signed to Good Look Entertainment and was curated by industry veterans, Keith Thomas and Terrence Carter. NLA has also recently joined forces with Migos for their new single “No Days Off.”

NLA

Take a listen to their new single below.

AllHipHop Caught up with NLA to talk the state of R&B, the need for R&B groups, their sound and more! Check out the interview below.

With the state of R&B and with the inability of R&B groups to last on today’s scene, how do you plan to make your mark, have longevity, and keep the genre alive?

We plan to put out good music that anyone can relate to. We aren’t really worried because the music matters most. Even though we haven’t seen a R&B group in a while, once you put something out that’s real, people can’t help but to gravitate to it.

Who are your biggest influences?

TLC, SWV, En Vogue, Destiny’s Child, Total……..but of course The Supremes and all that came before us. We pay homage and take a little from each group for inspiration.

Describe your sound.

We really have a urban sound. Right now we have been dabbling in the trap world. We want to make sure we make something the urban community can relate to…. what’s in the streets…. what people can feel.

What sets you apart from other groups?

There aren’t really any other girl groups out at the time, so we don’t really know how to compare or measure where we stand there but, we are really good friends, and what we have hasn’t been pieced together. The chemistry is really there, and we are making music that we love. We understand how important it is and how much of a blessing it is that we genuinely like each other. We all had our journeys, and we are still together. This separates us from the girl group world that has so many issues that people run from.

What do you think of the current state of R&B and what will it take for there to be a resurgence in the genre?

I think the current state of R&B is sad, so to be honest I think that in order for it to be revived, us as a community has to embrace what makes it so amazing. We bring that cool factor. We aren’t trying; it’s really what we do. We are trying to get back to that feeling that you had in the ’90s that made you love music. There are no girl groups off the top of my head that I can recite the lyrics to their songs. That’s sad, but we can definitely bring that [girl group] to the table at this point.

What’s next for NLA?

We are putting together an EP. We don’t have a release date yet, but we have put together an amazing body of work. Right now we have an amazing single out with Migos called “No Days Off” that has been receiving crazy radio play. We are constantly rehearsing and recording. Soon we will have a visual out for “No Days Off”. We are ready to go!

What other artists have you gotten the chance to work with?

We’ve worked with Shanell from Young Money, Rock City, Ester Dean, Yung LA, and Verse Simmonds.

If you had a wish list who would you want to work with?

Drake…..Nicki Minaj…….Fabolous

Lastly, is there anything else you would like to leave with your fans?

Continue to support us, and continue to follow us. Embrace us for what we are trying to do and bring back. We promise we will not disappoint; the music is amazing. It was even hard for us to even pick a single. We just really went back to the basics and hope fans can appreciate what we are bringing. Follow us on @NLAMusic on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and Soundcloud.

“If you do it to other people, you can’t take yourself that serious. People love tragedy,” said 50. “It’s like the way they’d put LeBron’s face up after the championship. But you was just rooting for LeBron, right? Because it was feeling like he was gonna win it by himself.”

The producer of the hit Starz program Power would not go into much detail about filing for bankruptcy, but 50 did offer a slick warning to any of his rivals that may want to use the situation to send shots his way.

“I watch people do it, and you let them enjoy themselves for a moment. Then it starts to shift, because they realize [me filing for bankruptcy is] not what they think it is,” added 50. “I just watch to see which one of them says something, because I’m gonna see you in a little bit.”

Mobb Deep Talks 50 Cent’s Grip On The Rap Game & Race Not Mattering (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) 50 Cent may be filing for bankruptcy, but the New Yorker’s current financial situation does not diminish his accomplishments as a Hip Hop star. Fellow Queens natives Mobb Deep spoke with Montreality about 50’s impact on the rap game.

“I think [50 Cent] totally has a grip on the rap game, and he became super-uber rich off of it. So he already accomplished what he needed to,” said Havoc. “I’m sure that 50 could come to Montreal right now and perform in front of a sold out crowd. I don’t think that’s anything less than a grip. That is a real grip. He’s a superstar. He’s bigger than his music.”

The former G-Unit members were also asked what they feel is the biggest lie in the world. Havoc focused his answer on race relations, and Prodigy agreed with Hav’s statements.

“The biggest lie ever told is that skin color matters. That’s the biggest one of all time,” Havoc stated. “We all have the same heart, same blood. I could give a Jewish person my blood if he needed a transfusion if it matched. We’re all human.”

Neil DeGrasse Tyson Talks Pluto With Stephen Colbert, Explains Why Earth Could Be A Dwarf Planet Too

As humans caught their first glimpse of Pluto’s surface on Tuesday — thanks to New Horizons’ historic flyby – comedian Stephen Colbert sat down with astrophysicist Neil DeGrasse Tyson to chat about the “9th rock from the sun.

Pluto was downgraded from a planet to a dwarf planet in 2006, and Tyson has often been credited with playing a central role in its demotion. During the interview, Colbert tried his hardest to get Tyson to change his position in light of the new images.

“It looks like a planet, it’s got atmosphere, it even has a heart – unlike you,” the comedian said.

Tyson refused to budge.

“[Calling Pluto a planet] would insult all the other planets,” Tyson quipped.

However, the director of the Hayden Planetarium did concede that these terms are all relative.

“Jupiter is more bigger compared to Earth than Earth is compared to Pluto,” Tyson told Colbert. “Jupiter is 11 times wider than Earth and Earth is five times wider than Pluto, so if we were Jovians, Earth would be a dwarf planet too.”

Balenciaga, Alexander Wang in Contract Talks

PARIS — Could Balenciaga be facing a change in creative leadership?
Speculation is mounting in Paris that the fashion house, controlled by Kering, could part ways with Alexander Wang, hired in December 2012 as the successor to Nicolas Ghesquière, who exited after a stellar 15-year tenure and subsequently joined Louis Vuitton.
It is understood Wang is still under contract and preparing the next Balenciaga collection for Paris Fashion Week, scheduled for Sept. 29 to Oct. 7.
Spokeswomen for Kering and Wang would only say there are discussions between the designer and Balenciaga regarding the renewal of the contract.
The likelihood of an agreement could not immediately be learned.
As recently as last March, ahead of a fashion show attended by Lady Gaga, Balenciaga touted accelerating double-digit growth, with Wang telling WWD: “I feel we’re already a globally recognized house, and a top luxury leader. We’re well on our way.”
Wang and Balenciaga chief executive officer Isabelle Guichot had described a host of development plans for the company, citing men’s wear and knitwear among chief growth opportunities.
At the time, Guichot said the double-digit gains last year were fueled by “almost all categories, from retail and a very healthy wholesale business.” Balenciaga counts about 500 wholesale doors in
